I have a (literal) bucketload of 100 won coins. I want to exchange them for notes. Do banks provide plastic bags in set denominations so I can bag them up? Or do I just haul the whole lot down there and let the banking staff sort it out?

Cheers.

At my bank, KB (kookmin) Bank, there is a machine which will count up your 100 wons etc and then puts the money in your account I guess.

Just go to the bank with your haul and wave it around. I am sure someone will point you in the right direction.

I used to go to a KEB where they would put all my coins into their machine which rolled my coins and then they gave me paper bills for the value of the lot.

I tried a different KEB and I had to leave them my coins that they counted and then put the money in my account. It may have been because I was a bit late; they were about to close soon.

Anyway, I used to go to Shinhan bank and they would do it there too. I'm guessing that any Korean bank will do it.

Just do what ilovebdt said, go to the bank with your "treasure chest" and they'll count all your coins no problem.

YES, follow everyone's advice and put them in a bag and go down to your bank so they can be counted.

BUT you should count them first to make sure you have an accurate count, somtimes they can drop them when putting them in the machine, write the amount on a piece of paper, so they have something to go by as they count, then they will automatically put the money into your account so you can go to your ATM to withdraw cash

I tell ya'....Korea is one of the places you can make 240,000won in change in about 3 months if you save all your 100 won coins.

I went to KB as suggested. Indeed, the have a coin sorting/counting machine. You don't even need to sort the coins into different denominations. Worked a treat!

THe Korean bank workers will absolutely love you though if you individually wrap each coin in Hello Kitty paper, with ample amounts of scotch tape.

I'm jealous. My KB had one for a couple of months, but just when I was ready to cash in my jar... it was gone.

I had to wait 20 minutes for the teller to use the rediculous machine behind the counter instead (the one that only counts & wraps one type of coin at a time).
