Bennigans has raised prices by 1,000 on most meals, and removed the option of purchasing sides separately. Bummer.

Like many restaurants, they still practice the somewhat discriminatory discounting of up to 20% using credit cards and phone discount cards most foreigners have difficulty obtaining, if at all.

It's not hard to get a cell phone membership card if you have a cell phone. All it takes is a simple phone call to your cell phone provider (more easily done if you have a Korean call on your behalf).

The problem is in getting the accounts. KT and SK accounts, in your name, require a large deposit. LG doesn't require the deposit (last I heard), but LG sponsors far fewer promotions such as this. If you get the card in a Korean's name, the card is sent to them in their name -- not yours. And if you are the owner of a card-uh phone, you don't get a card at all.

Yeah, right -- really easy.

These "discount" programs are everywhere, and amount to less of a discount and more of a raised price you happen to avoid if you have the proper card. For foriegners, getting the proper card is not easy.

As for the sides comment, it's nice to be able to have a choice. That choice is now gone. It seems a few of you are celebrating that fact. I suppose you're probably the type of people stupid enough to allow your boss to omit portions of your contract the 2nd time around, and not care about it.

I also have no apologies for you in regards to not liking Korean food. There are a few dishes I like, but past that, I really don't care for most of it. Just because I live here doesn't mean I have to like the local food, and I wouldn't be so daft as to expect others to like it, either.

I have a KT discount card...had no hassles at all.

Went to a main KT office, showed them my account and said I wanted a members card.
They gave me a form to fill out which was basic.
The only thing is you need a Korean to sign off on it(anyone will do) and 1 week later i had my card...

No talk of deposits and the card was sent to me in a week...

Not only me but the majority of my friends here have dicsount cards and nobody has ever had to pay a deposit, and we are all pretty much KT...

Just don't go to a little store, go to one of the big KT offices and you should have no problems and bring a Korean with you.

BTW...bennigans is crap...for the price they charge it is extra crappy.

Bennigan's, TGIF, and anything of the like are CRAP. Would you eat there back home? I hope not.

Outback isn't too bad. Their prime rib is good. But you can't smoke in there and it's also too pricey.

Outback has the worst prime rib I have ever had. And is it is not offered with horse radish to disguise ts inferiority.

No, the prime rib steak is pretty good. Doesn't compare to home-cooked prime rib roast, but it's not the worst I've ever had. I think you're exagerating just a wee bit.

I'm with you on Korean food. There are some things I like, but the idea that I should be EXPECTED to like it and eat it every day because I live in Korea or OTHER foreigners like it is ridiculous.

With that said, you need to take a negative and turn it into something positive. How about making a Korean friend who has the discount card. It's not real hard to find someone who wants to practice their English. You can meet every week at the food place of your choosing, eat all the scrumptious discounted food you want, and have a nice conversation.

Or you can isolate yourself, sit home, and bittch about things on Dave's....

What pisses me off is that my Korean friends never offer to go eat western food. Never. It's always Korean. Always.

I wish they'd get their heads out of their asses.

Male Korean friends? It's been observed that Bennigans et al are typically patronized by families (child's birthday), guy/girl on a date, groups of women before or after a musical. Male Koreans rarely ever go to bond. It's BBQ and soju.

I would have a hard time believing one couldn't rook a few Korean female friends to hit some western joints.

Yes, male friends. It's like I wouldn't even think about suggesting going for a steak or some Egyptian food or anything.

Women, of course, are more adventurous/curious and it's not like you can just sit back and let them decide.

Ah well, look on the bright side - Bennigans sucks, anyway.

Deep-fried sandwich covered in icing sugar? Get real.
