|
|
Hi, I want to upgrade my new desktop to enable me to play some of the more graphically demanding games (quake 4 etc). I currently have the following setup:
Viiv Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 (1.86 Ghz, 1066 MHz, 2MB)
Hard Drive 160 GTB Serial ATA 7200Rpm ULD
Dual Channel Memory 1024MB 533MHz DDR2
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3000 integrated
Basically id like to know if its feasible for a layman such as myself to perform an upgrade or if i need to rope in my techie cousin?
Also, i have been given a free Vista coupon to upgrade from XP. Would this affect anything?
Thanks |

DO NOT UPGRADE TO VISTA! Please read the other forum on here pertaining to that subject.
Regarding the video card: If you are looking to play quake 4 (I have it and am on the final stage), you'll need a minimum of a 7000 series GT card to make it run nice and smooth. What is the max you want to spend? Does your PC have a PCI-E x 16 slot available? Does your PSU have a 6 pinn power connector available? You'll need one. |

| There is nothing wrong with vista.. I would send away for the Upgrade coupon any way just so you have it.. I think they expire.. Just don't install it. |
