I was sitting in a park in Fukuoka yesterday, looking at my shiny new Korean work visa, and low-and-behold, it appears to be an E-1. I nearly gagged on my rice ball.

I signed on at a small private University in Seoul this semester. The contract I signed listed me as an associate professor, not as an instructor or a lecturer. I didn't pay attention to it, figuring it was just semantics. Talking to my new co-workers today, it seems none of them have an E-1. I feel like I won the secret crypto lottery.

Questions.
1) What's the difference between and E-2 and an E-1?
2) Can I force regular E-2 visa holders to give me pony rides?
3) Can it be taken away when immigration figures out they screwed up?

If you work at a hagwon, you might get nailed by Immigration since, as far as I know, E1 doesn't allow you to teach there.

PS. The difference between and E1 and an E2? About 50 million won per year.

I had an E-1 when I worked at a small private uni, too. I was technically considered as a "lecturer" at the time. I didn't get any special perks for it. I've heard that E-1s can take on other jobs with immigration's approval. Now I work for a better uni making a lot more money, but I'm now an E-2. I don't think it really matters.

A PhD and a Korean university that wants to hire you to teach something other than languages.
