I'm trying to download the old C64 game "Jumpman Jr.". Everytime I download it and try to open it, a window opens that says "Windows cannot open this file because it doesn't know what program was used to create it" (basically).
I don't think any of the programs on my laptop created this game, which is very old. On the d/l websites there is no info about having to d/l any special program to run it.
What do I do??? |

Quote: |
A software emulator allows computer programs to run on a platform (computer architecture and/or operating system) other than the one for which they were originally written. Unlike simulation, which attempts to gather a great deal of runtime information as well as reproducing a program's behavior, emulation attempts to model to various degrees the state of the device being emulated. High-level emulation uses a combination of the two approaches in an attempt to retain as much accuracy as possible while having the advantages of simplicity and speed provided by simulation. |

Ya see, I downloaded a C64 emulator already but that didn't do anything. Thanks though. |

was the game also the original game (i.e. coded for the c64 platform), or was it written for another OS? you don't see C64 software on the net much these days... |

Yes! Yes! Jumpman! I thought I was the only person who remembers that game. Any time I mention it, people give me that "WTF?" look.
Sweet Lord, if you find it you HAVE to post it. I could easily waste more years of my life playing Jumpman and Tooth Invaders. |

You need a C64 emulator, the game you want to play, and probably a front end program that makes it easier to run the emulator and organize all the games you have for it. |

It would be helpful if you at least gave us the file extension for the file and put this thread in the right forum; technology. |

True, this should be in the Technology forum, but have you tried using the "Program compatability wizard", which is located under Accessories? Might help!! |

I give up. I have no idea how to do this. I downloaded an emulator (twice) and I downloaded the game (many times). I can't get it to work.
They're both very easy to find and dowload from various sites on the internet. Just search for "Jumpman Junior download". If anyone figures out how to make it work though, please let me know. I'm ready to pull my hair out. |

Have you downloaded a C64 emulator front-end? When you fire up the C64 emulator it gives you that blue screen with the prompt, right? You have to type in some esoteric thing like "LOAD 8,1*" This is why running a front-end makes things easier. There are dozens of good emulator sites with FAQs that take you through things step by step. |

I got the game to run. Jumpman wouldn't move, so I had to exit the game and configure the controls. Ok, then I had a quick game, got killed, and when I tried to play again the controls wouldn't work...I assume I have to configure the controls again...what a hassle. Gave up on it. |
