I was told school has a US $3 million offer from one publishing company, of which I would receive 10%, and a pending offer from another (the owner's mother is a publishing mogul)...assuming this gets green-lighted in the first place. I was told my classes would be reduced to two hours a week so that I may devote almost all my time to writing but...making textbooks within a limited time frame requires a team of dedicated, talented professionals. And while I think I write ok, doing this alone might be almost impossible. Essentially, I am asking for advice and resources on this matter. I might earn more than I imagined possible, but is it worth it?

You're told the school has a $3 million dollar offer from a publishing company. That's crap in the highest order. I wouldn't trust a word you were even told. You came to Korea to teach English to Korean Students. If they want you to start writing that crap tell them to raise your pay. Also, you'll need to have your classload reduced by more than five (5) hours if you really want to do this. Having said that, your labor contract WILL HAVE TO BE modified. Your hours are changing and your pay should be increased. So, if you actually follow through on this, then get a clause specifying a decrease of more than five (5) hours and increase in pay. If they are unwilling to meet your requests, then don't write the great white monkey novel.

I read the OP's post as he would be teaching ONLY two hours a week...

I say if they are willing to pay your full salary + plus any overtime you put in and you actually like writing, go fo it. You won't be out any cash, and if things are as they were explained, you could stand to gain a large sum if the finished product is successfull.

This is correct: I would teach only one two-hour class per week. The school has not lied to me thus far: they have given me a good salary (3.4 mil won per month plus optional 100K won per hour priviates), good accomodations, and anything else I have asked for. The gyopo assistant manager gave his sister (who also teaches there and has confirmed this) a similar offer with US $90K up front, though she declined. So...
