Im trying to get a wireless broadband connection in my house. ie a wired LAN connection with a wireless modem for my laptop.

The companies are saying that to get wireless you can only get 4mb per sec.. And if you get wired its 20mb per sec. and because im in a house so I wont be able to get the 100mb per sec in the big apartment buildings.

Im just wondering if they are getting confusing me for wanting a wireless hotspot service?

Has anyone been able to get 20mb speed broadband which includes a wireless modem?

Well, at speeds that high, you're looking at file transfer speed over your home network -- not internet download speed, I'd imagine.

You can usually plug into the back of the wireless box (hard wire) and get throughput about as fast as what you're gonna get plugged into the wall by yourself, anyway.

ok my bad:

Wi-Fi devices are often used in home or consumer-type environments in the following manner:

* Termination of a broadband connection into a single router which services both wired and wireless clients

But this basically explains what im looking for. A router with wither wired or wireless connectivity. Anyone been able to get an upgrade to this option?

Well, I've always needed a regular cable modem, and the wifi router plugs into that. I haven't seen one that is both a cable modem and a wifi router in one.

Doesn't mean there isn't such a thing, though.

Wifi can be in your home, at Starbucks, on the street -- anywhere.

Routers have, generally, 4 ports in the back to plug other computers into. They also transmit a wifi signal too. Generally, the same type of routers/access points are used in Starbucks that are used in homes. Brands like Linksys, Belkin, Zio, Trendnet, DLink, etc., are common.

access points have no ports in the back for additional computers. Routers do. You want a router.

How good are you at Korean?

I've got a 40,000 won Zio brand router that never gives me so much as a hiccup compared to my 150,000 won Belkin.

If you can get by with Korean menus, you should try Zio out.

This is the one I've got:

I see this model is even cheaper:

I have a Linksys router/ modem which has worked just for for me, and at the site you can download their Easy Link Advisor.

Also, for wireless home networking see:
