Hi!
I hope this does not sound too hokey, but I just moved to the Hak-dong area in Jollanam-do Kwangju from Seoul with my family and am looking for some like-minded people to help me get acquainted with the city. I am a 37-year old Canadian male with a Korean wife and two beautiful daughters, 5 and 3 Korean age. I am family man but do enjoy the occasional beer or two with a game of "pocketball". I like all sports and could use a workout partner. Also, tip on classes or part-time work of any kind would be greatly appreciated.
Please leave me a PM. |

you can always try speakeasy which is canadian owned ... a lot of foreigners go there ... also, they got soul train bar (free pocket ball)around the same area in dochung near grand hotel ... gwangju is a great place to live! with regards to finding part time work ... forget about tutoring privately ... especially in gwangju ... the immigration here are notorious for busting people doing privates ... happened to 3 personal friends of mine ... squeelers everywhere around here trying to make money busting you |

There is a Gwangju information center that sponsors lots of things for foreigners, day trips to various places, they are pretty good. the downtown area by the post office the is the place to go. Is Soul Train still there? it wasnt a bad place to go
haitait: the person is likely on an F2 so he doesnt have to worry about immigration busting him |

If you are married to a Korean, you just need a license to tutor. (F-2 visa?). That's my situation, and a license is cheap and well worth it.
EDIT@@@ oops--didn't read the post above this one. |

Thanks for the tip on the tutor license. Any idea where to apply for it? |

Welcome to Gwangju. The Gwangju International Center, www.gwangjuic.or.kr/, is a great resource. The monthly magazine they publish is pretty good.
There are quite a few expats here. It's a nice place to live. Feel free to PM if you have any questions. |
