This was the scene this weekend. Friday night after kick boxing, drank with one of the guys at the gym, his name is PARK, so him and I walk all around my neighborhood, people smile as we pass by, old men are gentle, the guys all around me move out of my way, let us pass in peace.
The pig restaurant is packed, people smile, wave at me, couples adore me, the world is my oyster. But wait...............
Sat. Night...........I go out with MISS PARK, hot woman, wears a mini skirt even though it is freezing. Walk down the SAME street....EVERYONE hates me. Guys stare at her (they are afraid to stare at me) mumble something under their voices, old men spit, I am the rat from hell, same pig restaurant, the guy who roasts the pig in the back keeps giving me dirty looks, the tables of guys all around us just wont keep their eyes off us, with angry stares of hate......
SUNDAY! Wake up at 3pm, go to the repair shop to see about my bike, one of the guys invites me to eat, guess where, the pig restaurant, same place, and ............they love me. I just wish they would make up their minds |

A couple of years ago, myself and my ex-girlfriend were on our way to a restaurant recommended to her by her friends. When we arrived, the restaurant was about half full. We were denied a table because the owner explained to her that he did not speak English.
This of course really pissed her off and she called the man a racist (in Korean) and he stepped up as if he was going to hit her. I just got in between so Mr. Save the Race one waygook at a time couldn't hit her.
He then started shouting at me in English "Go back your Country!"
A Korean couple who was paying their bill at the time of this confrontation apologized to us when we got onto the street. Took us to another place and paid for drinks.
This is the love/hate relationship that keeps this place interesting. It is also a sign of how the younger generation has more liberal attitudes towards mixed couples than the middle aged of this country. |

Yeah racism is fascinating. Can't get enough of it. |

Don't let it get you down to much. I use to have the same problem when I would walk do the street with my wife, who is Chinese.
Everyone would stare at us when we walked down the street, eating in a restaurant, and on the bus.
Sometimes it was funny going around the city. We have seen people falling down as they would exit the bus, walk into building, mail boxes, and into other people. We even say a lady walk into a busy street, because she was to busy watching us walk down the street. She was almost ran over by a bus.
My wife would tell me it made her feel like a super star. BUt not everyone would feel the same as she does. |
