I've recently had a situation where a teacher held back information about a school when I talked to them about working. They held back some frank comments because they hadn't gotten their severance pay yet. The plot thickens.... My questions is; Is it right or wrong for a teacher to hold back frank comments about a school until he/she gets paid? That particular teacher said they were just looking out for themselves since they did not know if I was really a potential recruit or if I was a "spy". Who can you really trust? Tell me what you think! |

I think it is up to that person. In my opinion I don't think it is right but you have to do what you have to do to get paid. Now this should be a sign that this school is crap if you have to be scared to give information. Good luck! |

When you talk to the current teachers at a school, you can NEVER be certain if they are being honest or if they even work at that actual school. Some rotten schools and recruiters get illegal teachers to pass themselves off as "happy teachers" at certain schools. This has happened to me, and others.
Don't trust ANYONE just because they're white or originally from a country outside of Korea. There are PLENTY of jerkfaces that help the crooked hogwan owners and recruiters cheat teachers. |

Thanks alot. It look like the best bet is to get on here and search out former teachers rather than current teachers. I even had one teacher call me back once and ask me if I was coming. You really can't trust anyone. I know there are good schools out there so I'm just going to keep on looking. |

You even have to be careful who you trust on this board. Some are hogwan owners and recruiters passing themselves off as teachers. |

At my first hagwon, when they were looking for a replacement, I did not really care too much about getting paid my severance because I already knew I had another job and would be able to get it out of my director eventually. I told a potential candidate that the kindy was a pain in the a$$, they are slow in getting your medical, and that you will always be paid 3 days to a week late. Other than that I said it is a pretty good gig for a beginner and the kids were wonderful. I told her just to say I said only good things about the job if she was asked why she did not accept the job. She told them everything I said and tried to get more money out of them. She didn't get the job and my last 3 weeks was hell.
So, on the flip side, when you are telling the newbs about the hagwon watch your back because the fresh out of college idiots can really make your life hard spouting off their mouths. |

All of which is why I always recommend that you get the contact information for MORE THAN ONE teacher at the school and contact them when the boss is NOT LOOKING over their shoulder. You are more likely to get the real information rather than the smiley, "It's all good," message. |
