Where is a good place to look for public school jobs in Korea? Also, when is the best time to look? My current contract ends June 1, but I may extend it until August 1. I want to take a one month vacation after my contract ends, so I'll be looking for a job starting in either July or September.

I'd say first figure how what area you want to be in and then contact the Board of Education directly.

Some people don't want to be far from Seoul and others don't mind being outside the big city. I'd say personal preference is the first thing to consider.

Also when you find a school that is interested, make sure you get some say in accomodations (at the very least how far from the school it would be and what it would look like). Even in a public school you can get lousy accomodations. In my case I was lucky, but I've heard from some people in the same education district that weren't as lucky. Make sure you know what your getting yourself into.

Most likely it will be a much better gig then any hagwon.

Where do you want to work?

Each region has it's own board (and I am not going to dig up and list 100's of addresses and contact numbers). Alternative you can call 114 and get the numbers of the OE in the city you want to work in. (114 does not have English service) .

OR

You can gp through a government program like EPIK / GEPIK / SMOE (ETIS).

OR

You can contact any of the recruiters who recruit for the public schools. They advertise here: ( http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/ )

I'd prefer to work in either Seoul or Busan. Thanks for the link. Given the schedule my students have at school it seems like it'd be better to try to look for a position starting in late August or early September instead of July. However, I'd prefer to find a job starting in July, would it be possible to find a public school job starting then, or will I have to make a choice between starting in July and working at a public school?

I don't know specifically for Busan but public schools up this way are on summer holidays from July 21 until August 24.

I suspect (if you choose a government program) that you will do your orientation (week long program) beginning sometime around Aug 10. If you are a direct hire you will probably be able to start at the end of August.

For Seoul you want the ETIS website http://etis.sen.go.kr/.
You'll have to google for the Busan one, (Busan Office Of Education) I don't have it handy.

Worknplay is one of the recruiters who were working with SMOE.
