Hi, I have a 125cc scooter and I'm just wondering if I need a license to drive it here. Also, where can I go to get a license and a license plate? I live in Yongsan, Seoul. Thanks!!

I did a search on the Internet and the Internet says:

Carry your international driver's permit (often erroneously called the international driver's license) and tell any cop that stops you that you think it fell off. Supposidly this works. Do you trust the Internet? -Jeff

I wouldn't trust the Internet, or that piece of advice from Dogshed. You think cops are gonna go easy on a foreigner?

I know an international license must have a motorcycle endorsement on it, and you license from home has to have the motorcycle endorsement on it, too (both are technically supposed to be carried together, although Avis rentacar never asked for my U.S. license.

Keep searching for real answers.

It wasn't my advice but that's what I found when I did a search.

My advice is to type the words "motorcycle test" into the search and make sure you click the radio button for "Search for all terms". After reading through that you can ask specific questions not answered in those previous posts.

Here are a few:

Here's the national driver's license site. The popup says they will take your foreign license if you don't take the test. (Turn off your popup blocker to see it.) An email I got from them before I came to Korea said they will give your license back if you are planning a trip home. I haven't tried yet. Maybe when I get mine I'll tell them I'm going home soon. I don't know if that will work.

If you have an ARC card and are not a tourist your International License is NOT valid. God help you if you have an accident where a Korean national is injured. If you work here you must obtain a Korean license.
