Hey peeps!
I just wanted to holla at all the new EFL/ESL teachers and welcome them to South Korea. Being a newcomer myself, it's nice to know you're not alone in this new and different world called Korea.

Having said that, what are some of your first impressions of this place?

I love Korean barbeque! Nothin like sitting down on the warm floor, having a video camera, some good new friends, a Korean barbeque, and some soju! Had a chance to try North Korean Soju, but by that time my digestive system was on strike. Wink

Granted, I'm in the honeymoon phaze, but why not enjoy it!

Cheers!
Daniel

sitting on the floor is the 2nd-worst eating experience and I refuse to do it ever again

being on CAMERA while doing so is the worst

You sound like a fun guy to hang out with.

Enjoy the honeymoon stage! I like reading positive newbie accounts of their impressions on Korea; it reminds me of how I used to feel. I remember how cool/different/interesting everything was, and how every few minutes, I was making new discoveries and connecting all the dots. I'm by no means an expert, since I still do have new discoveries from time to time, but they are fewer as time goes on.

I just got here a few days ago and so far I have had a good experience. I'm on Jeju Island so I love the palm trees! So far, everyone has been very nice and helpful. Basically everything I need is within walking distance and I like my apartment. My first day at work was Friday. It was a little hectic, especially since I'm teaching kindergarteners, but I think I will enjoy it. Going to E-Mart was definitely an experience, but I was able to find just about everyhing I needed there. So far, so good. I'm still getting settled in and I'm sure my first week at work will be a little crazy. Of course, I miss everyone at home but I haven't had much time for the real homesickness to set in yet. I think I'll like it here.
