Well, not quite, but it does make for a catchy topic header (especially for Clash fans).
Spy Death Radiation Alert Spreads Across London
British Home Secretary John Reid said traces of radiation have been found at a dozen sites in Britain.
Three British airways aircraft operating London-Moscow route are being investigated for possible radiation contamination following the death of former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko.
British Home Secretary John Reid said traces of radiation have been found at a dozen sites in Britain, and confirmed tests had started on two of the planes.
Previously, radiation was found at the sushi restaurant where Litvinenko met his Italian friend on November 1, and in the London's Mayfair Millenium hotel.
Radiation traces have also been detected at several more sites, including Litvinenko's home, the offices of Russian oil tycoon Boris Berezovsky and the offices of Erinys, a security and risk management company, all in Central London.
So far, 18 people who may have been exposed to the radioactive substance, polonium-210, have been referred to specialist clinics. Three of them have shown symptons similar to those of Litvinenko.
Mario Scaramella, an Italian KGB expert who met Litvinenko the day he became ill, is under British police protection and is undergoing medical tests. He was not contaminated, his lawyer said.
John Reid will make a statement to British parliament on Friday. Same day, a post mortem examination will be carried out under secure conditions to avoid possible radioactive contamination. |

I saw a news report that said Polonium-210 can be found in some kind of camera equipment or fixture. I didn't catch the whole thing. But, it sound like it's a common chemical that happens to be radioactive.

question is...what will Britain do about it???
Russia has just killed one of their citizens on their soil, as well as taken 3 jetliners out of operation and given 3 more citizens radiation poisoning.
Putins rather brash demands were " I do hope the British government won't use this to make a scandal".
Ahem..I feel a song coming on...
"When two tribes go to war
A point is all you can score... |

The plot thickens.
MOSCOW (AP) - A key figure in the poisoning case of former spy Alexander Litvinenko fell into a coma after being questioned by Russian and British investigators, the Interfax news agency reported Thursday.

The Sadistic Poisoning Of Alexander Litvinenko
Dec. 19, 2006
London is a metropolis of exiles and dissidents, many of them Russian, a city of spies and retribution, where accounts are settled often in the most unsettling manner.
Take, for example, polonium. As a weapon, it is novel, even eccentric. It's highly toxic, killing when its alpha radiation comes in contact with the body's cells. It's also rare and tricky to extract, and its main use has been as a trigger for nuclear bombs.
In the wake of the death of the former Russian secret policeman Alexander Litvinenko, poisoned by polonium, strange theories and strange people have popped up vying for space in the world press. Nick Priest is one of them.
He has a slightly odd name he's a nuclear scientist not a man of the cloth but otherwise it is just his line of work that was, until Litvinenko's death, obscure. His expertise is polonium.
"When I worked at the [British] National Radiological Protection Board I was putting polonium into rats, looking where it goes in the body, how long it stays in the body," Priest explains.
So, I suggested, he's the expert on how this could kill people.
"I guess I am," he said.
For a moment Priest seemed a little unsettled by the thought that his learned papers, based on his research on rats, had been read by someone with murder in mind. But only for a moment: He was having too good a time

Shooting Of Putin Critic In U.S. Raises Questions
By Jeremy Pelofsky
Tue Mar 6, 2:55 PM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The shooting of a Russia expert near Washington days after he publicly criticized President Vladimir Putin has all the makings of a spy thriller, but police say it was most likely a random street crime
Paul Joyal, an American security consultant who was friends with slain former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko, said on the February 25 television show "Dateline NBC" that critics of the Kremlin were under threat of being killed.
"A message has been communicated to anyone who wants to speak out against the Kremlin: 'If you do, no matter who you are, where you are, we will find you and we will silence you -- in the most horrible way possible,"' Joyal said on the show.
The report highlighted Joyal's friendship with Litvinenko, who died on November 23 after being poisoned in London with a lethal dose of radioactive polonium. Before he died, Litvinenko accused Putin of ordering the attack, a charge the Kremlin denies.
