| I'm about to head into Suwon and was planning on buying a guitar. Anyone know of any good shops off hand? |

When I lived in Suwon there was fairly extensive guitar shop near my nome in Seryu-Dong. I don't know if it's still there but it's not that far from the bus-terminal/E-Mart/Migliore area. Do you know where that is?
Let's say you are right in front of Migliore, go straight as if you were walking towards Suwon Station. Go two blocks or so and turn right on that street...it's a small neighbourhood commercial street stocked full of pc bangs, small restaurants, dvd stores, bakeries and the like. You should see the guitar shop on the left hand side a block or two in on that street.
Failing that, Homeplus in Ingyedong has a small music shop that carries basic guitars and equipment. |

| I haven't come across any real big music shops in Suwon yet but there are several little places where you could probably find what you're looking for if you're not too picky about brands. I live in Hwaseo-Dong and there is a decent little shop there. Failing that it's not very far to Seoul where you could surely find anything you're looking for if you look hard enough. |

I managed to find guitar heaven on my first full day in Korea...
I was strolling along the main street in Itaewon and one of the crazy tailors asked me what I wanted. I said guitar and did some air guitar to emphasise the point and he jotted the address down on a business card and said "taxi, 5000". I jumped into a cab and sure enough, 5,000 won later I was dropped off at some place and the driver pointed at some steps. I went up them and as soon as I looked inside I wanted to have babies with crazy tailor man.
The place was an indoor market that sold nothing but musical intruments and equipment, and there were many decent brands at decent prices. As I had limited funds I settled for a cheap squire strat-a-like and a Laney practice amp. 150K for the guitar and 77K for the amp. Bargain!
The sales guy also gave me a bag of plecs, a case, a strap and cable for no extra cost. Nice guy
So... I then went looking for the subway to get home and found Jonggak station to be very close - 5 mins walking distance or so.
Sorry I can't be more helpful in giving directions, but the place is really worth a visit. Just get out of Jonggak and ask a random for guitar whilst strumming like a madman and you will get directions |

| I have heard of such a magical place but lost the directions that I had been given. Thanks for the reminder. I know what I'm doing this weekend! |

Did it look like this?
Then it was Nagwon music market. The closest subway would be the #5 line exits for Jongno 3 ga station.
You have to search long and hard to find the quality stuff. And when you do, it costs an arm and a leg. But like every market in Korea, it's "buyer beware" so if you know what you're doing, or have someone with you who does, it should be okay. |

Yeah that's the place. I loved it there, and compared to the UK the prices were pretty reasonable for low-mid price guitars. The Epihone LP's were very well priced and I will be going back for one in a month or 2. The Laney amp I selected was for the US/UK market as the manual and tags were all in english. I'm sure it has fallen off the back of a production line somewhere... |
