I heard from a friend of mine that within the country of South Korea, if you break a contract, you are not able to work somewhere for six months. Have any of you heard this before? Is there such a law? This source is a corporate lawyer who is a foreigner working in Korea themselves. ^^

That definitely doesn't sound right. If you get a letter of release you should be able to start working again at a new place once the visa is approved. Without a letter of release, you may have to wait for your old visa to expire before being issued another one. Maybe it's some other kind of visa but as far as I know that's how it works with an E-2 visa.

Plokju is right. Once you get a letter of release, then you are good to go and start working at another school. I've done it before. School just comes up with a little threat like that. I don't think you have to wait for old visa to expire tho. In my case, I just went to Japan to get new E2 a week after I quit.
