Is this true? Can I not see the contract from the school in question? I've also asked for the name of the school but to no avail!

As a recruiting company we cannot give out the schools name. But as for all your other questions I am more than happy to answer them.
There are only 2 other foreign teachers there which is great because it can give you more of a family atmosphere. Often times there are bad relations between the management of larger hakwons and foreign teachers as I know from a past teaching experience when I worked at one the premier hakwons in Korea where there were 12 foreign teachers.
As for a sample contract I can inform you that 95% of the hakwons here use the same type of contract and I can send you a copy of a sample one from another school as that is all we have available to us.
We have contracted teachers with this school in the past and they have a great staff. You have my word. |

Tell them you found another recuriter and is going with that one since he told you the school name and see how fast they change. |

FALSE!
Did a recruiter tell you this? If so, cut your ties with him.. he's likely to hook you up with a school that has a tarnished name.
To be honest, I recommend side-stepping the recruiters. If you have any way of paying for your own ticket out here, do it... that way you can personally check out your prospective employers. But if you must go through a recruiter, be cautious. At the FIRST sign of shady dealings, JUMP SHIP! There are too many snakes out there. |

Exactly.
I went through five recruiters before I found one who had the sort of information and offers i was looking for.
One recruiter is not the end all and be all. Recruiters are limited to the particular jobs they are pimping, and if they do anything you're uncomfortable about, demand more, making it clear you'll walk if you don't get it.
Whatever you do, DON'T send any documents until you are 100% committed to a particular position. Not your degree, nothing signed, nothing at all! |

Eugene at Newsome Recruiting:

Cheers!
edit / update: To be fair, Eugene seems nice enough, and when I asked him about the contract he said I would be able to see it once I've interviewed with the school.

This seems awfully risky, doesn't it? My knowledge of Korea & Korean is very limited at best. Not sure I'd be able to get around. Has anyone else ever done this? |

I agree with, um, "Jizzo". Lots of people say to come here and check out the job first.
I say, why bother?
You've never taught in a hagwan before- hell, you've probably never taught anywhere before. It will be really difficult to see what a school will be like to work at by just walking into the building.
You're better off just emailing and talking to current emplyees. Ask a lot of questions- many people (myself included) do have a tendency to paint their school in a much rosier way than they should. Be specific in your questions.
It's all gambling anyways- but you can increase your odds by asking questions from your computer at home just as well (and much more conveniently) as you can from inside Korea.
Also, once you are here you can only look at asap jobs. From home you have a much wider range of options, and can choose when to come here yourself. |

| OP- they don't want you to know the name of the hogwan because it's probably blacklisted somewhere on the internet. Stay away from that hogwan and that recruiter. |

Newsome placed me into a wannabe language school and told me that they'd find me a suitable job elsewhere after hearing my unbiased reports about the Korean staff, etc.
One month later, they still duck my calls.

YOU don't have to take the job they offer. YOU don't have to use that recruiter. |

Crooked recruiter.
Isn't that an old picture of Uma Thurman on the recruiter's homepage? |
