In an interview for a job at a public school I was asked why I wanted to come to Korea.
Struck me as a pretty good question, but one I was not prepared for. I'm afraid they might not like the truth.
What should I tell them? |

You like kimchi and kalbi?
You are interested in learning more about Korean culture and history?
You want to experience living and working in Asia?
The first answer was meant entirely tongue in cheek, the second one marginally so.
Really, I think there is no PAT answer to that one. |

Tell them you worship Dr. Hwang Woo-Suk.
You could mention your friends say Korea is lovely, the people are friendly, the food is good for you, etc... |

Hmmm, I do like kimchi, and it is hard to find good kimchi since the Koreana Restaurant was closed by the health department.
You don't think: "I need a new prosthetic leg and my health insurance ran out" would work? |

Tell them you enjoy teaching Korean learners.
Of course, you could just say you're only coming for the 소주 |

Say you're in it for the money and will run at the 1st sign of hostility.
That sounds like the honest answer for most haha |

Tell them Korean women are sexy, and you heard all you have to do is give free English lessons to get a girlfriend. |

I had a lady friend over the other weekend and she cleaned my whole flat while Iwas in the shower and talking to the big white telephone. Awesome, that'd never happen back home. |

I wanted to meet new people.
Same thing as meeting women (Koreans) and drunkards (most other teachers). |
