| My visa runs out in a few weeks. I'm staying at the same school. I know I don't need a visa run, and that I can do it at the immigration office. What documents will I need to take? Thanks |

You will need to take an ammendment to your contract, as well as some paper work from the school. It will cost you 30,000 won (I think, that is what I paid) You will need to bring your passport and ARC card. They do it on the spot. You will have to fill out a paper once there, or you can download it from the Korean immigration site.

Within the last 30 days (and with MORE THAN 7 days remaining on your visa you (or your proxy) MUST go into the local immigration office with:
Your new contract with the end date clearly marked and school stamp affixed,
Your ARC
Your passport,
30k won,
signed application,
copy of the schools registration document,
Guarantee paper from the sponsor (school).
If you want a new re-entry permit you should do this at the same time.
Add 50k won (assuming you are not from the UK). |

Thanks for the info.
Does anyone know the Korean for the schools registration document and the Guarantee paper from the sponsor (school)
Hardly anyone at my tiny school speaks a lick of English, so I'd imagine asking for those docs, without knowing the Korean names, would be difficult.
Thanks |

| i printed a copy of the visa application form but nowhere does it mention a renewal or extension of a current visa. also, nobody seems to know what a guarantee paper is and suggested that i just go to immigration and they will have one....? My visa expires on the 21st and due to my schedule, I can't go until Thursday the 15th. Hmmm..... |

The current application form is a one size fits all form with check boxes at thge top of the page. You are NOT extending your visa but extending your period of sojourn. One of the boxes at the top of the page is for an extension of your period of sojourn. That is the box to tick off.
Have your minder CALL the immigration office and ASK what the two documents the school needs to submit are (school registration and guarantee paper). It is easier than farting around.
I know that for my last renewal I forgot the guarantee paper so the immigration officer simply faxed one to the school, had it filled in and then faxed back. It simply added an hour to my wait. This was at the Seoul immigration office. |
