Hey everyone. I'm new in Seoul and am already getting a bit lonely. I would like to meet some fellow expats. However, I don't drink and am wondering where I should go to meet people. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seriously though, there are tons of sporting clubs, church groups, korean language classes, etc. Check out the Korea Herald announcements section...you can even get into some serious Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) if you wanted to, don't think dudes drink too much....

Well, not to sound like your mom or anything, but if they wont be your friends if you dont drink, then they're not good friends.

I understand that, Forrest, but I'm not referring to friends that want to go drinking when I don't. I'm saying that, as a non-drinker, I'm not sure where to meet people in the first place.

Makushi gave you some good advice.

go to a korean class. There are ones that are "free" but usually each student gives 1,000 won to the teacher. The one I have gone to numerous times is near Sookmyung Woman's Univ. on line #4. They have classes from 4:30-6pm. If you're interested, PM me and I can give you the directions to the place. There are a few other places in Seoul as well. There is also a book exchange once a month near Gwanghamun. I don't know if its the best place to make friends, but people socialize plenty.

You should go to the gym. That's where I met my friends Skip Foreplay and Hugh Jorgan. Most westerners here take very good care of themselves through regular exercise and a well balanced diet. It is rare to find unfit westerners or westerners who smoke. In addition, women are hardly ever on the bigger side. Just go to the gym.

British pub in the British embassy. It sounds like an oxymoron, but there is not much drinking involved in the British pub and there is a good size crowd representing various expat communities (teachers, diplomats, business executives, self-employed people, etc). You have to buy a membership, though.

Trinny, do I have to be British (cause I'm American)? And how much is the membership?

There is an 'adventure' club called 'adventrue Korea' they have regular trips and adventure related activities. It looks like fun. Check out www.adventurekorea.com

There is also an Ultimate Frisbee group that plays in Hangang Park. Newbies are always welcome....no experience necessary. check out www.koreaultimate.com for more information. There are also a number of discussion groups/language exchanges/church groups/ etc. Check out the Seoul Classifieds and look through the listings.

I also think joining one of the free language programs is an excellent idea.

No, you don't have to be a British to be a member. I am not sure about the membership fee, though. You should check out with the British embassy in Seoul, because it is run by the embassy.

I don't have expat co-workers cause I don't yet have a job. However, hopefully when I get one it will be a source of friends. Thanks for the tips everyone, I will definitely take them to heart.
