hello

my parents are coming over to Korea and they wanna go to Tokyo as well but they dont want to fly. They'd rather come here then get the KTX to Busan, a ferry to Japan and then the bullet train to Tokyo.

Has anyone ver done this? Could anyone give me and idea of the price/time it takes and any travel agents that could help out booking this up

I think Kangsan travel can help you out. kangsantravel.com We recently went to Kyoto from Busan. 190,000/person round trip ferry. 26,300yen round trip from Fukuoka to Kyoto on Nozomi Super Express trains (freaking expensive!). I would imagine that Tokyo would be twice that price. You could look into the JR Pass or KoreaRail pass. Tey have some kind of deal with the ferry too. Contact Kangsan, they are usually really helpful.

JR railpass is the way to go but you can't travel on the superfast shinkansen as far as I know.

If it's simply the bullet train experience they want, I'd recommend a shorter trip by shinkansen. It really isn't that amazing. Perhaps fly to Tokyo from Seoul and then a day trip to see Fuji-san by bullet train. This would give them the same experience and be a helluva lot cheaper.

Course, if they really want to go Fuk-Tok by bullet then just bring lots of dosh or a railpass.

It makes ABSOLUTELY no sense monetarily wise is they're going to Japan only because they want to go to Tokyo.

I agree. Going to Tokyo overland (especially if you're using bullet trains) would be more expensive than flying, not to mention it would take at least 10 times longer. It would only make sense if you had lots of cash, time, and a B.A. Baracus complex. "I ain't goin' on no plane!"

If your parents don't want to fly, how are they getting to Seoul?
