just about to get my visa run done and I need to get my alien registration done as soon as possible, after I arrive back in Korea.
I'm just wondering what are all the documents I need to give to the immigration office when I apply.
Also does anyone know what the office hours of immigration offices are?
thanks for any help. |

You need:
- 2 passport sized photos.
- 2 documents from your employer.
- Alien Registration Application form (available at the immigration office, or from their website)
http://moj.go.kr
- 10,000 won
- you should also fill out an application for MULTIPLE RE-ENTRY PERMISSION. They are also available at immi and on the website. This will allow you to leave the country and return without having to get a re-entry permit each time. This costs 50,000won.
If you don't get one, a re-entry permit is 30,000won for each time you leave the country.
Office hours are 8:30 - 4:30. Go as early as possible. Be prepared for lines and disgruntled, idiotic service. Be polite. |

If your new visa is valid for one year and it is a multiple entry visa, then you don't need to buy the re-entry permit. |

For a university, you need your certificate of employment, as well as another certificate which lists the personal details (address, phone#, SS#) of your guarantor (the university's president). You may also need a copy of your contract, I'm not sure. I know you need the contract to renew your ARC, but I can't remember whether you need it for your first ARC. |

Is it normal for immigration to hold on to your passport while they are processing your new alien card?
I know they used to, but there have been so many changes... |

Yes, but they WILL mail it back to you for...um...I THINK it's a W5000 fee. If you bring your address in Korean, it will probably expidite the mail. It'll save you a trip to immi!! |

I would have done that, but the person in charge of that spoke almost zero English. I couldn't explain what I wanted and no one at the other desks (who could speak some English) were willing to help.
I tried to talk to the woman (definitely not a lady) who was processing my stuff and she very angrily directed me to the desk where I had purchased the stamps. She absolutely refused to explain anything. (and she was so snotty about it that I couldn't bear to look at her anymore)
I went to the other desk and she asked to see my "picture" ?
I had already given my stuff to the first woman and I had no picture. She didn't understand why I was there and I couldn't explain it to her.
I ended up walking away shaking my head at the mass confusion involved.
It wasn't even busy then. There were only about 5 people getting their visas processed.
I tried to be as polite and efficient as possible with everything, but I left gritting my teeth and wishing I could punch someone.
So now I have to go pick it up, but the school doesn't want to give me time off to do it. It's about a 2 hour trip (maybe more) to immigration from my school.
Yesterday my co-teacher kept asking for my alien card and my passport and I had already told her about 3 times that it was at immigration.
Fun and games...fun and games. |

Anyone know what documents I need from my employer? I work at a public middle school.
Also, anyone know if they'll take a credit card as payment? I'm super low on cash atm. |
