Researchers may have found the reason why children who go to bed too late often fare badly at school: lack of sleep appears to disrupt functioning of the hippocampus, an area of the brain that formulates new memories.

My boss says kimchi is good for the hippocampus.

Hence Korean historical revisionism. It's all in the development of new memories...

ㅋㅋㅋ

Conceptually, the parents wouldnt grasp it because you are imposing the Western concept of efficiency onto the Koreans as long as you are here concept. Here, more is better but more means more time present not more work finished. I would like to write a paper on this and cite examples at the work place, the gym, in bed?

My elementary students tell me that school is much easier than their hawgrons. So I wonder, why they hell do they go to school if hawgrons are more challenging?

I often wonder why somebody doesnt start a private elementary school with more hours and charge students the same rate as about four hagwons. During the day, they learn, at night, they study, practice their soccer so they have a realistic chance at the World Cup and the following day, move forward.

After elementary school, they can return to the public school system.

But as I said, its not more work finished, its more time present.

Yum..have it translated at your school and sent to the papers and to the parents of your students. Start locally, get out there and push for this. Unless of course you are just using this as one more excuse to complain and take pot shots at Koreans....

No need to translate:

One

another one

The consensus seems to be that too little sleep = low grades and obese.

Indeed....it would be a good idea to get this moving in your respective schools. start locally and get involved...thats how you get things rolling. Get K-teachers onboard as well.

Or..just sit on a discussion board and complain about this issue....

To each his or her own.

Now their parents will force them to sleep...

No, sadly, I think many parents will think their kid is the exception that proves the rule.

Thanks Mith - today during graduation ceremony I'm going to go post them up on some school bulletin boards and see how long they last.

according to my students, this one mirrors the one in the OP the most.

being that i teach driven-to-the-fucking-bone apkujeong chaebol larvae, this was the most relevant of the 2.

yet if you warned some of these kids that lack of sleep would make them fat, i'm sure their mothers would act with military precision. fat people are bad.

Interesting - I was just doing some photocopying, looked up at the bulletin board, and noticed that the article I posted is still there.
