|
|
My yellow cartridge is empty and when I try to print a B&W document it stops, tells me my cartridge is empty and then does nothing.
The model is Epson Stylus CX2900...is this normal? |

I agree unfortunately
I have tried everything but you simply need both cartridges "not empty" to operate the printer even if you dont need the one cartridge for a printing job
You also cant disable one cartridge
If you are reading this and thinking of buying a printer, dont buy Epson |

I haven't tried this out but I know there is an option in 'printing preferences' for printing in B&W only. Check that and see if it will do it.
I have an Epson printer/scanner (came free with a laptop I bought) and find it to be pretty nifty so far. I like how the color cartridges are seperated so, if, say, yellow runs out then you only have to replace yellow. With the HP I had before you had to replace the tri-color cartridge. Bloody expensive.
But, of course, all printer companies are thieving basterds when it comes to replacement cartridges. |

The inks on the Epson CX2900 are relatively cheap...7200 Won for a black cartridge that will print 170 B&W pages according to Epson (provided you have some ink in your color cartridges). Here's a comparison chart between printing out in a PC Bang and using an Epson CX2900 costing 100,000 Won.
PC Bang (B&W prints at 100 Won per page)
100 Pages......10,000 Won
1500 pages.... 150,000 Won
2500 pages....250,000 Won
EPSON CX2900 (costs include printer + ink + paper)
100 Pages ....105,000 Won *
1500 Pages....171,000 Won
2500 Pages....217,000 Won
NOTES
*The prices above are for the total printing output of the epson. In other words, you don't have to pay 105,000 Won for every 100 pages printed out with the epson but if you only ever print out 100 pages with the printer then this is what it will cost you.
It doesn't take into account the fact that the Epson cx2900 can scan or the fee you have to pay in a PC BAng. Also the Epson comes with free ink cartridges, however these are not full (I've subtracted 3,000 Won from the Epson total for B&W in the figures above). Paper costs about 5000 Won for 500 sheets, that's 10 Won a sheet or 5 Won a printout (you can use both sides). It doesn't take into account the cost of color cartridges (the three seperate cartridges costs 7200 Won each) |

47.35X + 100,000 = Cost of printing in KRW with epson cx2900 where x = number of pages.
100X = Cost of printing in PC Bang
So, using this formula you would have to print 1899 pages to break even and you'd be saving around 37 Won on every subsequent print so that 100 prints would save you 3700 Won and so on. |

"The Conquest of Happiness by Bertrand Russell" 192 pages at 17,290 Won = 90 Won per page.
Printing at PC Bang = 100 Won a page (you get more text on the page so it probably works out a good bit cheaper, but it's still something to consider if you're thinking of printing out a novel for 'cheap' reading). |
