Hi,
I've been offered a job teaching a high school in Eunhye, Gyeonggi (for GEPIK) and teaching elementary, middle, and high school students in Mokpo (Canada Connections).
From what I gather I'd only be at one school in Mokpo (of course I may be wrong). The pay is less than the GEPIK job, but I get almost twice as much vacation--25 working days vs. 14 working days. FWIW, the teaching hours are 20 at Mokpo and 22 at Eunhye. Both places offer overtime.
Is the quality of life better in a smaller city like Mokpo? Is Canada Connections more reliable than GEPIK? Which job would YOU take if given the choice? Which place would allow me to save more easily?
I've FINALLY narrowed my search down to these two, but I'm having a hell of a time choosing between them.
Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated (and needed)!
Thanks,
JTC |

Lived in Mokpo for a year. If you like out activities, it's a good place to live. There are a lot of islands, beaches, temples and mountains never Mokpo. The city itself is nothing special. There is a pretty large teacher population there. Another problem is the isolation. Kwangju is about 90 minutes by bus. Seoul is about 3 hours by KTX. |

No amount of pay and no amount of night life excitement can make up for teaching an age group you don't like.
Do you know from experience that you like elementary kids AND middle school kids AND high school kids?
If you do, then you are certainly more well-rounded than most of us.
There have been many posts on this forum from teachers who don't like the age group that they teach, and who found that out the hard way. |

The thing about age levels is a real eye-opener, tomato. |
