SYDNEY (AFP) - Charges will be laid against Hollywood muscleman Sylvester Stallone in an Australian court on Tuesday, the national news agency reported.

The "Rocky" star was briefly detained after a search of his luggage at Sydney airport on February 19 as he arrived in Australia to promote his latest movie.

At the time, customs officers said banned items -- reportedly bodybuilding drugs or a human growth hormones -- were found in the Stallone party's luggage.

Stallone insisted his run-in with customs was simply a misunderstanding.

Customs officials would not reveal what charges would be brought against the star, who will not be required to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court if he is represented by a lawyer, the Australian Associated Press said.

Local newspapers reported that officers raided the Oscar winner's hotel room and private jet after members of his entourage were spotted throwing items out of their hotel window after the incident at the airport.

Stallone was allowed to leave Australia, but customs officials said their investigation was continuing and they were aware of the star's movements.

Stallone, 60, has revived his Hollywood career with "Rocky Balboa", the latest instalment in his series about a Philadelphia boxer.

Will Italian Americans rally together and protest the government for clemency like the Aussies do for everyone of their retarded ilk who try to smuggle ten pounds of herion out of Indondesia or Singapore. Rally the troops, save the stallion!

There is no proof that Stallone bought those substances in Australia. He could have got them from somewhere where it is legal to purchase those things. They should have just confiscated the items. I am kind of torn on this one. I just think they should basically let this go. He was involved with drugs. He was peddling anything or selling anything. It seems like a mammaluke, dumb, stupid kind of enforcement of the law.

Perhaps if he was going to be killed or confined to a third-world jail for the rest of his life the Americans might have a few words with the Aussies?

Maybe it isn't a fair comparison?

It is Italian American slang for a dumb person who is worthless or something that is dumb, and it does trace to the word mamaluke which means slave in Arabic as you wrote. Haven't you heard the term before?
I like it, myself.
