i'm genuinely interested if you believe in some type of after-life. if so, could you please elaborate. a heaven/hell, another dimension, part of a cosmic soup type dimension? if not, is it that when you die, that's it? is there an after-life for animals as well? what do you think?

We'll find out when we get there. Or we'll blink out of existence and never know we wondered in the first place.

One thing I know is you don't grow a pair of wings and a weird glowing thing around your head.

i agree that once the brain is dead there is no consciousness, but what about the concept of a spiritual soul?

(iwould also agree that its important what we do when we are alive...)

I think the idea of the 'life' and 'death' of an 'individual' are illusory.

I don't think there can be a soul because nothing in this world is eternal.

Also I think the idea of the soul as being the 'essence' of someone is not possible. Eveything is in flux, always changing, therefore there can be no 'essence' of being.

My own personalized Valhalla for me, please. I like the idea of fighting and playing sports and games all day, getting all busted up, and then being resurrected again each night to have a big debauch--or, if I felt like it, just kinda hanging out with my friends, maybe catching a movie...
Failing that, I'm pretty happy with the idea of a sweet, painless nothing.

"the only thing the dead know is,
it's better to be alive."

Yep.

I'm hoping either genetics comes out with some extreme longevity engineering or we all have a chance to go cyborg.

I think we probably blink out of existence, given that there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever for the existence of a soul. I also agree with forever_young, in that no one truly knows until death. This is what we call a truism, regardless of what people tell you of their so-called 'past lives' that were dreamed up during hypnosis sessions.

We were dead for billions of years before we were born. Did you mind then?

Let me add just because we don't believe in a hell where we'll burn for evil doesn't mean we don't have morals.

There will be a "world-to-come". Not all non-Christians are non-religious.
