yet hardly anyone uses citations to back up their points. In my opinion, statements without facts are mere conjecture. If posters on Dave's (a few of your out there) feel so strongly about a topic, then why not prove your point or agrue intelligently? I am guessing the most common response will be "we are too lazy to look them up". It's sad, really, when you see how "heated" people get in their postings.

First, check out the CE forum for frequent use of online citation. Secondly, just because you have to use APA citations when you're writing research papers doesn't mean that doing so would be appropriate or even useful in this particular context, CL.

Don't guess. Either state a fact or don't say it.

I think the word we need to keep in mind when reading threads which bash or de-bash (it's a word. check it out) on the GE forum is.....ready kids?.....Anecdotal.

Defination?

Anecdotal
2: based on or consisting of reports or observations of usually unscientific observers <anecdotal evidence>

That's not to say these anecdotal observations are a bad thing. God bless 'em, 99% of my posts here are anecdotal. It just means that people are reporting what they think about here. Good.
