Australians citizens are advised to exercise care in the vicinity of the
Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hannam-dong between 8-12 March. The hotel will be the
venue for FTA negotiations between the Republic of Korea and the USA
during this period and large demonstrations are expected in the vicinity,
particularly on Thursday 8 and Saturday 10 March. You should avoid any
such demonstrations. There may be police checkpoints around Hannam-dong
and Itaewon and you are advised to comply with police instructions at these

I remember watching Korean riots in the 80's and wanted to see one. Might have to wander down there...

The friggen farmer's unions closed Daehangno / Hyewa down on a Sunday about a month ago. On Sundays that place has life. Lots of people strolling, shopping, having lunch, sipping coffee. There's even a Filipino market. All that was shut down thanks to these farmers protesting the FTA. When I walked by them (hundreds of them), I got some ugly looks. I have to admit that I didn't exactly feel safe.
I recommend you take the warning the OP has posted seriously. |

Well Thursday the 8th passed off without incident. My Japanese friend was quizzed on going in to meet my wife but my wife got in without so much as a glance. No one else around except preschoolers with riot shields... didn't see your pitbull either mate... |

Better, yet- why not try to be in one? Dress up in red, white, blue- like "Uncle Sam" and walk into the middle of the rioting Koreans. You'll get to "see one" up close.
I've been to NFL games in the US. Seen enough random, stupid violence. |
