I agree completely, however don't look to the current administration for that. Even if they wanted to help (and they don't, for a variety of reasons that we can explore in this thread) they probably can't due to budget issues.
More importantly we need the black community to get out there and say two things:
1. There are just as many gay blacks as there are gay whites, stop with the witchcraft (aka religious) based hatred which keeps black men on "the downlow". Also acknowledge that MEN HAVE SEX IN PRISON.
2. Black women must start telling men no. If you don't have a rubber, no. If you are sleeping around or think he is, no. If you've been to jail, no. If you've done drugs, no.
It's absolutly disgusting how black "leaders" have hid this epidemic away. |

That is right. In fact, it is a myth that there are any prominent Black leaders now at all. What you have are shake-down artists who concern themselves with publicity and high paid speaking gigs around the USA. I'm thinking Sharpton, Jackson and that quack Farakan (sp?). Notice that the three big dudes in Black America are all extremely religious. Imagine if Falwell (sp) was the leading advocate for whites..
The rate is on par with some African states... Incredible. |

The black "leaders" have to find a way to admit it happens, come to terms with it, then blame it on the white man.

But it predictable, considering the reaction already in this thread. It's not because of poor education, socio-economic disparities or fatalism--they deserve it, because of their "leaders" who will blame the white man.
I imagine there is a bit more complexity to the issue than kneejerk, clearly(if unrecognized) racist, opining intimates. |

Leadership plays a role, especially when much of this will be concerning homosexual activity.
Anyhow, maybe it won't matter for much longer anyways.

The vaccine uses a decoy virus with some of the genetic material of the aids virus but not enough for anyone to ever get the disease itself from the shot, according to Dr. Harriet Robinson, Ph. D., of the Emory Vaccine Center.
"It exposes your immune system to a pathogen like a virus or bacteria so before you've seen it you set up memory cells,� Dr. Robinson said, �and then these memory cells mobilize should you get the actual infection."
The test trials have been so successful that the vaccine is now more than a year ahead of schedule.
"Actually another two trials are starting later this year using different combinations of our vaccine and different administration programs,� said GeoVax CEO Hildebrand. �And following that presuming everything goes well we'll be starting a phase two program at the end of the year."
The vaccine works using a one-two pharmaceutical punch to prime the body then kill the virus.
�It raises both antibodies that can block the virus and it raises white blood cells called t cells that can kill the virus infected cells,� said Dr. Robinson. �So it really has two methods of controlling an HIV/AIDS infection once it enters the body."
The vaccine�s success with the simian AIDS virus has been nothing short of remarkable. Not only did the vaccine prevent the infection, it kept it under control for the monkeys that already had it, putting it in a kind of remission.
Researchers believe the same benefits await human subjects. |

Hey, listen, of course there is a clear correlation between poverty, socio-econmic status, education, crime, etc etc etc in this situation. I'm the first guy to admit this. The problem is that unlike the gay community, which from the very first days of the epidemic in 1981 rallied to confront the disease and its spread, the balck community is denying the problems. We may not have been succesful and there certainly was plenty of fighting and disagreements, however at least we saw the community awake and unite to fight this disease.
On the other hand we have the black community which is in total denial about this problem. No black leaders are speaking up about this at all (perhaps there are some but not many).
A classic and recent example of this is the black cast member from Grey's Anatomy calls another cast member a f*gget and the NAACP gives him an award. WTF??? How does that promote dialogue in the black community? |

Silly Canadian, AIDs is a lifestyle choice. Wrap (or rap) the rascal and don't shoot up and you WON'T get AIDS. Condoms are cheap and drugs are expensive. Do the first and don't use the latter and there will no problems.

Something's not adding up here.
This argument is missing something.
Blacks represent 14% of the US population and yet they also represent about 50% of the AIDS population in America?
And when we look globally the majoroty of AIDS cases are withing the African continent.
What's going on?
I'd assume economics plays a role, but there are plenty of poor and uneducated people in the States and worldwide. So why the disparity amongst the black population?
What's missing here?
It's much more difficult for a man to get the HIV virus from a woman as opposed to the other way around. I believe that the main sourse of HIV is through gay male sex followed by unsteralized introvenous drug use.
Now I would assume that drug use particulary heroine use which is a big problem from Phili to Baltiore to Washington, ect.. plays a major role in the spread of the virus.
But there's gotta be something else we're no discussing.
Is being on the down low a wider phenomenom than we might believe it is? Is homosexuality or at least bisexuality more common within the black race?
I realize I'm touching on some touchy subjects and I admit that I'm likely ignorant on several of my points.
But something diesn't add up and I would like to know what it is. |

Why don't you make a suggestion? Or, was your "more homosexuality in the black population" serious? If it was, we can dismiss that because heterosexual intercourse is the biggest spreader of AIDS. That's clear.
Or at least explain why to you the numbers don't add up. Just because different demographics have different statistics doesn't mean things "don't add up".
BTW: Are Koreans straighter than other "races"? |

I laugh whenever this topic comes up and Koreans tell me there aren't any gay people in Korea. Talk about denial. They somehow think that their little country got passed over by the gay fairy.
