I found a new job and my employer agreed to take me to immigration and cancel my visa and said that I no longer have any affiliation with his school. I also handed in my registration card and they wrote void on my visa in my passport. I also received an exit order to leave the country within 15 days. I know there is a lot of talk about getting a LOR, however I've been told that since I went with my employer to immigration and had my visa cancelled I can now go to Japan and come back and get a new visa. Is this true??
Thanks |

Most likely your old employer handed in an LOR as part of the cancellation process. If you're visa's been stamped 'void' and you have you're exit order you're in the clear. Enjoy your new-found freedom ... while it lasts! |

The guy at immigration just wrote void on the visa, is that alright?? If not, I should be able to get it stamped when I leave to do my visa run in Japan, no? |

Hmmm, I'd guess that's equally valid. Was their a signature or anything else? Did your ex-boss hand over any sort of letter to immigration with his stamp on it? If your boss went with you and you ended up getting an exit order, I'm pretty sure you're in the clear. |

No, there was no signature, just void scibbled across it. My employer handed in a stamped form that was the school's registration, and the a form with all my information that stated I was transfering to a hogwan. My co-teacher, whom I trust, said that I no longer have any affiliation with the school and I'm free to get a new visa. I'm just a little concerned, until I actually have my new visa in hand. |

If you have the exit order you are a free man and good to go.
Get a new job and good luck.
PS - DON'T overstay your exit order or you will be in deep ka-ka.
Leave and come back on a tourist stamp if you need more time to find a good job but DON'T overstay. |
