Hi everyone.
I have been offered many jobs in the past two days that I have been applying. A few of them sound good, I have to work in Su-Won and everyone is supporting this.
Actually right now my fiance is living in Korea. So I would like to live with him.
Now I don't have my passport, and I was wondering what happens when you mail/go to Japan for a visa run? What do they do exactly with your diploma and transcripts? What is the point? I have seen many topics about visa but none that explain what they DO with it. Do they just make sure you have it? Do they call the school?
Is it safe to go to Japan and get a visa?
If you have an F-2 visa, can you work without an e-2?
Thanks a lot in advance. I look forward to your responses. |

You need to provide your degree and transcripts before you can get the paperwork to get an E2 visa.
And you need a passport to enter either Korea or Japan. |

Your degree and transcripts serve as proof that you are qualified to teach English in Korea. With this they are able to give you a visa which allows you to work and reside in Korea for 1 year. You'd need a passport to board a plane bound for Korea so you'll definitely need to get one.
Immigration in Korea will approve the application for the visa here (reason why you send your degree to Korea) and fast-tracks a visa application made at a Korean consulate abroad. Most people get visas at Korean consulates in their home countries. Sometimes though the school needs you quickly so they fly you to Korea and then send you to Japan to get a visa at the Korean consulate there. The visa run to Japan is safe and easy enough.
Not sure about the F-2. |

You can get an F-2 visa if you get married to a Korean (assuming you already know) and yes you can work w/o an E-2. Basically you should just register your change of employer with Immi and if you must also let them know that or they will get to do what they love most: FINE THE FOREIGNER. Err on the side of caution whenever possible, better to ask too many questions than not enough.
Immigration laws seem a little hard to track down...maybe if one of the resident know-it-all's on Dave' Evil Legion could post an English site for up to date immigration law. |

On anf F2 you do not need any additional visa for any employment. That includes E2 for teaching, entertainment visa for acting/modelling...no additional visas, no visa runs. Nothing. |

If he has an F2 he does not need to register anything work related with immigration. Immigration would just tell him to leave, as they dont deal with employment issues of F2s. The only thing he needs to do is register a change of address with them.

This is very confused on so many levels.
If you do not have a passport you cannot travel internationally. End of discussion.
You cannot get an F2 visa unless you are MARRIED to a Korean national.
If you are applying for an E2 visa your diploma is examined by immigration and returned. Your transcripts are kept by the immigration office.
Why do they do it? The main reason is because of the large number of people who were working with FAKE documents in the past. This is done by the immigration service in Korea prior to sending you a visa confirmation number.
After you received your visa confirmation number you then go, with passport in hand, to a Korean consulate and get the visa placed into your passport. If you are applying for jobs from your home country, this would be done in your home country.
Visa runs are done by those who are hired while in Korea (and if you don't have a passport you are not in Korea) so you will get your visa from the consulate in your home country.
You cannot get an E2 visa to teach English if you are not from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia. |

My guess from the original post is that the poster is a female from a non-qualified country (as in not one of the accepted 7) who has a "fiancee" here and she is trying to find a way to get here as well. |

I got the same vibe actually.... everything from that post screams: unqualified and from the 3rd world. |

Ah no... sorry I confused you guys.
Actually I KNOW that I need a passport. I just wanted to state that. I think I lost my train of thought in that past post.
Anyways I know I have to be married to get an F-2. I was just wondering if I have to also have an E-2 visa to work.
Also I was just WONDERING if it is SAFE to go to Japan.
I'm not that confused... I've been reading the posts on this site for hours and hours trying to find the information but everyone has a different situation so none have applied to me.
Thank you so much for your replies ^-^
It looks like I will soon be accepting a job in Su-Won. |

Safe? As in you are worried about getting gassed on teh subway or killed by Yakuza? Japan is about as safe as it gets. You're gonna be fine.
You need to apply for your passport ASAP that usually takes at least a month. You will have to have an E-2 to work until you get married. After you get married, things change, but worry about that later. Your current situation is pretty standard, except that you don't have a passport. |

Hehe so sorry everyone!!
I'm not THAT confused.
Basically my questions were:
A: Is it safe to go to Japan on a visa run?
B: Why do they need to see my diploma?
C: Do you need an E-2 visa on an F-2 visa?
I know that you need to be married, I know you need a passport, and I am not from an inelligible country, I am Canadian.
So sorry for the confusion everyone... ^^
Actually it looks like I will be doing the job in Suwon. I'm really excited. |

So let me understand so I can give you an accurate answer.
+Your fiancee is KOREAN (citizen of Korea NOT F4 visa holder)?
+You ARE a citizen of one of the accepted 7 countries?
+You have a bachelors degree issued by an accredited university from one of the 7 accepted countries?
+You have university sealed transcripts to match the degree?
