So I guess he didn't lie, but by his standards then Bushie and Cheney should be up on the hill fighting impeachment. Clinton lied to a judge, they lied to the entire world. Ahhh, gotta love Republicans.

Quote:
Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge in the 1990s against then President Bill Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.

"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to the Associated Press.

"There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."

Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton's infidelity.

"The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge," the former Georgia congressman said of Clinton's 1998 House impeachment on perjury and obstruction of justice charges.

"I drew a line in my mind that said, 'Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept perjury in your highest officials.'"

Widely considered a mastermind of the Republican revolution that swept Congress in the 1994 elections, Gingrich remains wildly popular among many conservatives. He has repeatedly placed near the top of Republican presidential polls recently, even though he has not formed a campaign.

'There were times when I was praying and when I felt I was doing things that were wrong.'Newt Gingrich, former U.S. House Speaker

Gingrich has said he is waiting to see how the Republican field shapes up before deciding in the fall whether to run.

Reports of extramarital affairs have dogged him for years as a result of two messy divorces, but he has refused to discuss them publicly.

Gingrich, who frequently campaigned on family values issues, divorced his second wife, Marianne, in 2000 after his lawyers acknowledged Gingrich's relationship with his current wife, Callista Bisek, a former congressional aide more than 20 years his junior.

His first marriage, to his former high school geometry teacher, Jackie Battley, ended in divorce in 1981. Although Gingrich has said he doesn't remember it, Battley has said Gingrich discussed divorce terms with her while she was recuperating in the hospital from cancer surgery.

Gingrich married Marianne months after the divorce.

"There were times when I was praying and when I felt I was doing things that were wrong. But I was still doing them," he said in the interview. "I look back on those as periods of weakness and periods that I'm not proud of."

Gingrich's congressional career ended in 1998 when he abruptly resigned from Congress after poor showings from Republicans in elections and after being reprimanded by the House ethics panel over charges that he used tax-exempt funding to advance his political goals.

LOL, oh Steve you make me smile. I made your father smile last night Wink

Anyway, why can't anyone of the Republican defenders on this board admit when they act in a hypocritical manner? Are they just special needs students who don't understand their own actions? Maybe.

Rank hypocracy, no matter what Gingrich says.

It's not just admitting they're hypocritical, it's admitting they're wrong. And they're wrong so often I could understand how they might be tired of admitting it if it was something they did, but they never admit it.

Today's stories, murders are up. Gingrich is a cheater. Add to that the Schiavo case, Iraq, and just about verything else they've proposed in the last 6 years that hasn;t gone right, and all we get is excuses.

This is why they're not to be trusted and should not govern.

According to this website, it was his second cousin that Giuliani married...

yeah, i actually read about that today in the paper today. At least Rudy G. is more of a social libertarian and doesn't wrap himself up in morality and/or religion.

I honestly wouldn't really care about this...

...if Gingrich hadn't been instrumental in the abuse of the impeachment and Presidential review process. Gingrich says that his position is not hypocritical because he did not lie under oath. Well, isn't he running for President now? And he was part of the impeachment of a previous President for having done something he had not only already done, but something that he was doing at the very time he was pushing for impeachment!

Right, second cousin. Only one-quarter the chance of the children suffering birth defects then.

Then again, I read an article in a Korean newspaper today about German siblings who married each other and have four children together.

If some Christians had their way, cheating would be a felony or at least a misdemeanor and Gingrich cheated on his wife. It does kind of seem hypocritical.

If that's true, then you must be into necrophelia too since he died 14 years ago. But I don't take offense as he was twice the man you'll ever be. Volunteer pilot in the Flying Tigers in the Pacific War; two TDYs in Vietnam.

But between necrophelia and your other affliction, at least it can double your chances on a Saturday night. Quick, post a guard at the grave of Truman Capote!

Steve, don't assume about my or my family's service to our country. Unlike you're country, homosexuals are welcomed and allowed to serve in the open in my country.

And thanks for dating yourself, you're just a cranky old guy. The kind of guy who steals the kids street hockey balls when they roll onto his lawn. So sad.
