This article is not new, but I came across it, and I thought it was really interesting.
Apparently, the sleeping pill Ambien (zolpidem, Stilnox) has been used sucessfully to revive some coma patients. It's interesting to me how little we still know about the human brain.

This is pretty awesome stuff. I thnk it's great. Did you ever see the movie "Awakenings" with Robert De Niro? I think it is one of this best movies. |

Yep. It's about a different drug (la dopa) that also worked (temporary) miracles. It's also mentioned in the article. I just find it weird that a drug I take to sleep better may somehow restore cognitive function as well, yet we don't really understand how.
Which makes me wonder what effects decades of neuro-pharmaceutical use will have on the human species in a century. |
