Depends on which corpus you are talking about...
There was a really great presentation about this at Sookmyung Univ. last fall. Ron Carter spoke about a corpus he was working on with some collegues.
Words like a, the, etc., were some of the top ones. There were also some words like "um" and "hmm" that hit the top 20 or so. It was great. Wish I had written down the list, but he sort of wanted you to buy his book.
There was a Q&A at the end, and some douchebag feamle Korean professor from Konkuk University took advantage of the opportunity to stand up and bash foreign teachers, "This is all great. Why don't foreign teachers in Korea have any interest in studying this type of thing, or bettering themeselves with a TESL degree?"
