I want to start using a karaoke player on my laptop in class. To accomplish this task I'd like to try and link my lap top to the TV in my class room. Is it possible to do this?

depends on the tv and your laptop. If it's a flat panel tv and has a VGA input you shouldn't have any problems. just get a VGA cable and connect.

If it doesn't have VGA, then you'll have to check if your laptop has a s-video and/or RCA audio out jacks. then you'll be able to connect to the yellow/red/white RCA ports.

I'm sure someone with more information will be able to add to this post.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to take a wild guess and say not likely going to happen. I might just connect the sound to the TV and use the lap top to the words. A passable compromise for the time being until I can come up with something better.

Just to augment SuperHero's post, your laptop likely has either 4-pin or 9-pin s-video out... you can get a splitter that splits the s-video to rca (yellow) and then use an additional cable to connect from the audio out (headphone jack) to the tv audio as well. Did it back in Canada to connect my desktop to my tv.

that's quite a good idea for a class activity.
May I ask what karaoke software are you going to use/is there?

Chainsaw,

Lucky to come across your post because I had the same problem and found the solution. Get the Aver Keylite (it is the most modern, smallest, pear shaped, grey one). It costs about 45,000 but WORKS! with everything. I tried other Aver things and had problems but this is very small, has many kinds of plugs and works on a dime. Plug into your port (the blue 3 rows of keys) and plug the other end into the yellow jack on the TV. You should be set. Get it at an electronics store.

Worth the money. I have used it many times, especially going to friends places, wanting to show things on my laptop etc.....
