|
|
When hired by a private uni here in South Korea a couple of months ago, I was told by the director that I would be recognized by the uni as a "full professor" (same benefits as a Korean professor: no limit on how long I can stay onboard, etc.).
He also stated that I would receive an E1 visa, but, in fact, I was actually granted an E2 visa by the immigration officer here in the local immigration office (in the southern part of the country where I work).
The officer stated that an online MA wasn't sufficient for an E1 visa. Anyone have any experience with this issue before?
Also, just what benefits would an E1 (versus an E2) give me anyway? I know that an E1 doesn't have to be renewed every year, as the E2 does, but are there any other real differences? |

Yes, it is good enough. Several colleagues at my school have been bumped up to E1, one in particular had a USQ Master degree. I would have too, but I have and F5 so it wasn't an issue. Someone at the school will have to push for it though. |

What exactly is the E1 visa then and what are the differences between it and the E2? |

I've asked. Apparently there's no difference between an E1 and E2 in any meaningful terms. The only meaningful terms are in your contract, ie pay. |
