The test was given illegally to students by South Korean test preparation companies, ETS officials said. The investigation was conducted both in the United States and in Korea.
Our investigation confirmed that the security breach occurred only in South Korea, said Ray Nicosia, an ETS executive director.

In an unprecedented move, the U.S.-based Educational Testing Service (ETS) which writes and administers the SAT1 may decide not to acknowledge the results of the test and require that students take it again.
While the credibility of the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) had been doubted after test questions were found to have been leaked, this will be the first time that the results of a major exam have been nullified. The ETS' forthcoming decision is due to allegations of the leak and slack proctoring at some Korean test sites.

This really sucks. I prepared an amazing group of students for that test, many of whom were likely to be at or near 2300, and all of whom worked extremely hard to raise their scores.
The next test date in May coincides with AP tests (early June, I think), and they're taking so many APs that they probably won't have time to study and peak on the SAT all over again. |

faster : Funny, that was my first reaction, too. I thought about all of those students who DIDN'T get "advanced answers" and studied their tails off who have to take the test again. Too bad there's no way for THEIR scores to hold. |

The punishment is for Koreans in general, I think. So next time, maybe they'll be a little more careful around these parts -- and people with local influence will make sure of it, because it could be their kids who have to take the test again next time. |

Koreans highly value an American education. There's a lot of cheating on SATs. We highly value free music. There's a lot of cheating there. I think cheating is endemic to all cultures. However, since we're here in Korea, I think it's fair to discuss how Koreans tend to manifest their cheating. That in no way implies our own cultures don't try to cheat like hell. |

Anti-Americanism is on the rise in Korea and yet Koreans are scrambling like mad to get into American universities. As well, if someone cheats to get in that derives some far worthier candidates from getting in.
Pointing this out in no way makes anyone anti-Korean or a mindless b*tch like Jinju implies. Koreans I am sure are mature enough and have enough self-esteem to learn from constructive criticism. |

what is wrong with talking about cheaters? do you want to cram ANY school system with a bunch of nibnobs who don't know that academic progress is based on merit?

That's nothing. Many, if not most, foreign language highschools in Korea inflate the grades of their students who want to study abroad. |
