Question for all HS FTs

Do/Did you all have to come up with all the lesson plans?
I found the Let's Talk, and it seems suitable for the students, but it doesn't tie in w the HS Eng. book. Some co-teachers said it's ok whether or not it correlates w/ the book, so I don't really know which is better. I want to incorporate games and/or role playing, but w 40 + students it's hard to manage it effectively (50 min. classes). I feel I should focus on conversation and pronounciation since i'm the only FT at the school. I want students speaking as much as possible. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT.....

oh yeah....My school also wants me to teach the teachers. That's all I was told.......

Sorry, nothing constructive to add but...that's a lot of photocopying isn't it?

I'm slated to start at a high school in May and was wondering if you just scan the book and put it on the overhead or actually make that many copies.

This is also a topic I'm very interested in, as I will have to basically create the courses from scratch.

My school doesn't require me to do lesson plans. I do have a monthly plan on what I'm going to do because it's easier for me. I have no idea what they learn in the Korean teachers' classes because I always do my own thing based on the book I chose (Interchange 2). In large classes it's hard to do any sort of role-playing in a big group. Write dialogues and have them practice in small groups. Or give them easy prompts and have them discuss in groups.

I don't photocopy the book. I teach the main points from the book and then I have a couple of pages from the workbook (which I do photocopy.) Yeah, it's a lot each week, but I feel like they're more focused if they have something in front of them to work on.

You might be able to make overheads. I don't have that at my school. It depends on your school as to what is available.

Yes I do. I also use the Let's Talk series. I don't just go through each chapter one by one. I take the exercises and ideas which are A) suitable for my students and B) will interest my students and make my lesson plans like that.

Except one, none of my lessons tie in with the HS text book. I was just told to practise listening and speaking, so that's what I do. I found that my students are really glad that my lessons don't tie in with their text book. To be honest they study those texts to death, so they welcome the change in pace and materials.

It is possible to do role plays with 40+ students. In the past I have had the students create a role play from sentences I have given them. They practise with their partner and then the brave ones volunteer to do it infront of the class.
