If you want comfort and modernity, Malaysia can't be beat. It really has it all. It's only problem is that it really is more expensive than the rest of the countries down there. It is comfortable, the people are friendly, and it is extremely easy to get around. I love it there.

My favourite is Thailand. You could travel Singapore-> Malacca -> KL -> Cameron Highlands -> Penang -> Krabi -> Phuket -> Surat Thani -> Ko Samui -> Ko Phangan -> Ko Tao -> Chumphon -> Hua Hin -> Bkk; then fly back to Singapore or get the international express train. Avoid the south eastern provinces of Thailand (Yala, Naraithaiwat, Songhla, Pattani etc).

from the four we visited plus Singapore and Malaysia which I've travelled in before, I'd choose Laos first second and third.

And Luang Phrabang is my top pick in Laos. I liked Phonsavarn & Plain of Jars too, but it's not for everyone. More for the thinking person, rather than the partier.

Singapore is a great place to be based out of.. check out Tiger Airlines and Air Asia for great deals throughout the region.

Last time I even went to Darwin Australia and the Philippines for a few days each as well as the other usual suspects in the SE Asian region.

laos, laos, laos.

i recently spent 3 months in all of those countries and the highlight, hands down, was going from northern Thailand (Chiang Mai) into Laos (Luang Prabang and then down to Vang Vieng.) LP and VV were totally amazing, and Laos is probably the least developed touristed of all those countries. but more people are discovering it and going.

southern thailand was great too but don't expect to experience much thai culture.

But it is my understanding that if you click with a sexy native and want to get intimate, you can end up in jail...That's not so appealing

this is true, but only if she tells on you. do you often sleep with women who later want you arrested? i mean maybe you should work that out pre-coitus.

and you are free to hook up with any other nationality, of which there are plenty.

Do you go on vacation to third-world countries to have sex with the locals?

I'll second a vote for Myanmar. Wonderful people (Bad Government).
I like the Isarn region of Thailand better than Loas, myself. The Isarn people are basically Lao people, but the Thai facilities are much more reliable and the buses don't run on the "sometime today, maybe" schedule as they often do in Laos.

Do you mean do I choose my vacation spots so I can frequent houses of prostitution? No, I don't. But if I'm on vacation for months at a time in a locale, and being single, it's not out of the realm of possiblity to meet someone. Oh, and I don't let a nation's socio-economic status limit me. I'm willing to have sex with first, second, and third-world locals. I simply
believe two consenting adults should be able to have sex without the government dragging your a$$ to jail. Give me a break and go back to whatever puritain hole you crawled out of.

Obviously it affects your vacation or you wouldn't have mentioned it. I wouldn't keep away from a country, because I can't sleep with the women. Usually people on vacation don't spend months upon months in a single place. After a while, it ceases to be a vacation and it is called living.

Malaysia was awesome - Kuala Lumpur had all of the creature comforts (shopping, food, night life) and Malakka had the more "exotic" feel (and cheaper). Awesome place.

Vietnam was good too, cheap but fun and seemed very willing to bring in tourists and treat them well for boosting the tourist economy!
