(I arrived here in mid-March, 1994 and woke up to a gorgeous snow like we had last week.)

I guess technically it would be Monthiversary, but who's quibbling?

Some things I've figured out...

a) if the job is OK, then life is OK
b) eat your veggies, like your mom told you
c) when a Korean says something 'odd', bite your tongue till you figure out what was intended
d) be friendly to LG 25 ect clerks (and clerks in general). They are bored and under-paid. They may be able to help you sometime. Even if they can't, be nice. It doesn't cost you anything.
e) if you don't have some hobbies you can do alone in your free time, you'll go crazy
f) it is nearly impossible to distinguish between way-gook sarams who were crazy before they came here and those who are just suffering from a lack of hobbies, and it isn't incumbent on us to figure out the difference
g) if you don't like ajosshis it's because you don't like male people (probably because of gender insecurity)
h) there is a difference between whining and asking advice for a problem you are encountering
i) whiners are genetically programmed to be losers and country-of-residence doesn't make much difference
j) bigots are not bigotted against just one thing. They just haven't found the excuse to express their bigotry about YOU yet. They will, in time.
k) the Korean educational system sucks big time, but it does work for some of the students some of the time. So do other educational systems in other countries. Same same.
l) the proportion of certifiable way-gook sarams is increasing.
m) the best way to find out about Korea is to go to dinner with one or two Koreans, sit on the floor, drink some soju...and shut the F up so they can talk (It's the VERY rare person here who wants to hear how life was back in Wide Spot.)
n) While life has its ups and downs, it isn't unique to Korea. It isn't even unique to you.
o) 99% of all Koreans go through a WHOLE day without thinking about you. Get over it.

I hope after 135 months you can say you've enjoyed it as much as I have.
