Selling an Apujeong (though it can be switched or added to other clubs quickly and cheaply) membership. It lasts from today until early January 2008. This is a really good deal as you don't have to pay for any of the usual crap, and you get 200K off the year membership, not bad for 6 weeks off, huh? Anyway, I am looking to get rid of this quickly so make an offer. |

Its a gym membership. California finess is the biggest club in Korea, with more than 4 floors or fitness. There is also a sauna and hot tub room. You can do yoga, pilates, and all the other good stuff aside from just cardio, weightlifting, and classes. |

Is the 600,000 won including the transfer fee? Or is that added on to it? |

california fitness has three locations in Seoul and one in Daegu.
in Seoul there's one in Apgujeong, Myungdong and Gangnam. it seems like the OP is selling a Apgujeong membership (you can't use any california fitness gym you want unless you pay extra for your membership), so if you're close to Apgujeong, it might be useful to you. |

I think if you've never belonged before, then you would have to pay a joining fee of a couple hundred thousand won, and then it's about 125,000-140,000 per month... |

the official rates are ridiculous. the registration fee is like 380K won and monthly dues are around 150K. then again, i know no one who pays that rate.
the way the club runs is kind of sleazy. if you go there and express your interest in joining, you will first meet with a "fitness consultant". that person will give you a tour of the facilities and the programs they offer. after that you'll sit down and start talking about the price. they'll tell you their official rate and of course you'll be shocked at how expensive it is. then they'll give you some BS sales pitch (mine was, oh you just missed our promotion that just ended, but let me talk to my boss and see if you are still eligible) and ask you probing questions like how much are you willing to pay etc. this is where you are supposed to negotiate etc. i suck at haggling but luckily they gave me a rate that was within my budget so i told them i would sleep on it and then get back to them the next day.
if you look on the korean sites, people complain how about expensive it is to get out of a contract (lifetime membership) and the service after you join. so caveat emptor and all that. i joined knowing all this because they really do have one of the nicest facilities around (i would say only the gyms in the nice hotels are nicer), the rate i was given was reasonable, and i know what i want to do (free weights and some cardio) and have no intentions of joining all the other programs they offer. if you know what you're getting into then i don't think it's a bad gym to join, otherwise you might want to exercise some caution. |

Yes, as far as quality and variety of equipment/machines, CA WOW Fitness is one of the best in Korea. But with that, come the hefty membership fees. I paid $300 in transfer fees for my Lifetime Membership, so that might be the same rate for the 12-month pass, or perhaps a little lower. The transfer fee has to be paid by the original owner at the time of the transfer. And both parties should be present at the gym at the time of the transfer. So, OP is now selling for $550, you'll have to work it out how you'll pay him the additional transfer fee money. In the end, it seems like this will cost someone about $750-$850, depending on the transfer fee. That said, it's right about average for what you'd pay if you joined the gym yourself, ~$75-80/month. |

btw, I sold it about 3 weeks ago. I haven;t said anything until now, because 1st the thread got lost, then it became off topic. Both are cool, and you may continue on- just know I already sold the membership. |

it doesn't list their thailand franchises either. the most likely explanation is the California Fitness and California Fitness Wow X (the one in korea, and the one with a much dumber name) are unrelated franchises.
the one in Korea claims to have franchises in HK, Thailand and Korea, whereas the California Fitness site HK, S'pore, Taiwan, Malaysia, and probably China as well. and it's also related to 24 Hour Fitness in the US it seems. so most likely they are unrelated franchises. |
