|
|
Hi
I'm from England but came to Korea from Thailand. I want to travel onto Australia at the end of my contract.
I'm entitled to a return flight but (even if I wanted to return to my permanent residence of England) I've been told that I'm only entitled to fly back to Thailand (they have agreed to give me equivalent of to put towards my Oz flight).
My principle is being very reasonable about it and says it's up to the province board not the school (it's out of his hands!). Do I have a case for claiming more money? It seems very unfair that I'll only be claiming a total of W800,000 on flights where as if I came from England it would be about W3,000,000! Incidentally a flight to Oz is cheaper than a flight to the UK, but obviously about double the cost of a flight to Thailand.
Any advice? |

Look at your contract. It should say something like the employer has to pay for a flight back to your country of origin. Your origin being England, since that's where you were born. |

Who gave you that quote to the UK?
Even the most expensive economy flights to England DO NOT cost 3 million won.
I flew one way with Korean Air from London, the most expensive airline to fly to Korea, for around 700,000. During peak season a return to England is only about 1.5 -1.8 million won.

Just curious, what is your home address as listed on your contract? I came to Korean from Thailand but I have my home address listed as an address in the USA. My recruiter had my Thailand address but my school only has the USA address.
I dont know the law but I think you could put your foot down and easily get a flight to England, but are likely out of luck for a flight to Australia. |

New contract says it will give you the money instead.
Or 75% of it. |

Actually, if it is a GEPIK contract they will pay your return flight cost up to a MAXIMUM of 75% of the full fare Korean Air one way ticket.
I have never yet seen a time when you couldn't get a ticket for less than 75% of the published full fare price.
It does NOT say they they only pay 75% of your ticket home.
To the OP, your contract should read: After the completion of the employment contract a one-way ticket to the Employees foreign residence will be provided.
It can be argued that your foreign residence is your home country and they are responsible for it. You can contract the liason at the Gyeonggi Provincial office and get clarification.
