|
|
Does anyone know anything about foreign langauge high schools in either of these places? What are the interest standards based on? Could a student get in solely on the basis of English, without having much Chinese or Japanese? Does anyone have any website links? I know there's a Daegu Foreign Language High School but I can't seem to find a website.
(I have a very intelligent MS student who really wants to go to one and is very curious about them. Since I work at a combined middle - high school my school is of course more interested in getting students into our own high school. More famous regular HSs in big cities are interested in our best students, but foreign language HSs wouldn't tend to recruit in our area. While I'd love to have this student in our HS if I'm still around, in all honesty I think she'd benefit far more at a more specialised school than in ours.) |

Thanks. Nice to see that even foreign language HS sites are still 99% in Korean. |

I'm not sure about Chinese or Japanese, but I work at a TOEFL hagwan, and a large number of our MS students are with us to get their TOEFL scores up so they can get into the Daegu FLHS. I don't think there is a minimum, but that it is competitve (i.e. Joon-su's 105 stands a better chance of helping him get in than Sun-mi's 89).
Come to think of it, those students don't know any other foreign language but English, so I think yes, you could get in solely on good academics + good English.
Hope that helps. If you want more concrete information, PM me and I'll ask my boss, who knows all about this stuff (or some of the HS students who are in the Daegu FLHS). |

| If she is exceptional and plans to study abroad, have her apply to Minsok or the "Milk School" in Kangwondo although it is a long shot. She will know it. |
