I wanted to see when Easter was this year, so I googled it. Well, what a shock. Turns out, the full moon plays a role in it. This is word for word what I found.

Rules for determining the date for Easter are:

Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first full moon that occurs on or after the day of the vernal equinox. The vernal equinox is fixed at March 21. There are some highly technical rules for determining the actual date of the full moon. But, when you take all of this into account, the result is that Easter can never occur before March 22 nor later than April 25.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

What the H. Is this a GRE question?

In any case. this year it is April 8.

I think it would just be easier to oracle every year when Easter is. Laughing

If you are in a public school or in most hogwans, you won't have to teach on Easter! Wink

Well, considering it's ALWAYS on a Sunday, I should hope not! Now, Easter MONDAY... now if you get that off... congrats!

"Easter" was originally a pagan celebration that included a number of scandalous fertility rituals meant to bring good fortune in the coming season of crops and animal births. Rabbits and eggs were a sign of springtime fertility for obvious reasons and the "Easter bunny" is a symbol we still use today.

Easter, being originally a pagan holiday akin to New Year's, was celebrated based on both the equinox and the lunar calendar, just as it still is today. I think it's interesting that it's one of the most important "Christian" holidays and yet almost everything about it has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity. Anyway, yeah, so it got changed to being celebrated on a Sunday just to make it more Christian--and to make the heathens who celebrated it more Christian as well.

It's the only (Western) holiday that's still celebrated according to the lunar calendar. That's why it's such pain to calculate.

I was always taught that the eggs and bunnies were a symble of new life, what Christians believe Jesus was meant to have brought to the world. Bursting from the egg like bursting from the tomb upon resurrection...

Yes, it is a pain to calculate.
