| Geochang looks like like a nice rural town, do any of you know anyone who has taught there and what their experience was? How cheap is it to travel to the larger cities from Geochang. Would i go insanely bored ? =) There appears to be several really cool things near the county.. three national parks and a number of buddhist temples. |

Geochang is cool
It costs about 4,500 to get to Daegu (Seobu bus terminal, 1 hour)
about 17,000 to get to Seoul (Nambu bus terminal)
People are friendly there, and there are a lot more foreigners living there these days.
If it is a good job, go for it.
You can pm me for more details if you like. I lived there for a year and had a great time. |

I was in Geochang in the summer and worked on the wiki, but still have lots to finish:

If you get a job there, ask your director or one of your co-workers to take you to Samsanisu for dinner, at least once. One of the best restaurants in Korea, IMO. |

I got an email from the Geochang Rural College or whatever it's called. I guess you did too. Sounds OK to me. Still trying to figure out th pay though.. the email initially said 2.5-3.5 then it turned out that some of that is what you can earn by doing privates (there aren't enough quality hagwans in town or something..). Also it seems holidays were negotiable but it sounded like they might prefer you to do camps and privates and stuff.
If it is the college that emailed me, then it is a 2 year technical college, so I imagine the students aren't exactly top tier. ie their English will be non-existant and a number of them will be there "just because" not for an actual education.
It sounds like a nice place, I've never visited it though. Oh it also sounds cold in winter and hot in summer. |

| Thanks for the responses! I appreciate you all taking the time to give me your experiences about geochang. The position I was considering was not one offered by a university, but rather with the public school system. I'll PM you soon, thanks again! |

Geochang is a nice place . Country side.
Are you gonna stay in one elementary school? Or you would be jumping from one school to another in a day or in a week ? Try to check on this one because in some cases, one native speaker teacher is shared by two or three schools. This means moving from school to school in a certain schedule. If the pay is good , then go for it. Anyway, just PM for more info. |

Hey there Coder1,
Im in Geochang at the moment, teaching in the public school system!
Geochang is a great little place. Around 15 foreigners here at the mo with several more to come in March. Cheap/friendly/easy to get around.
Things can get a little quiet around town, but if you get bored, Daegu is just a short bus ride away. Around 4 buses an hour!
- bus to Daegu, 1 hour, Seoul just over 3 hours.
Will you be in a Elem/Mid/High school.
I know a lot of the Korean English teachers from most of the schools in Geochang.
PM me and I will help as much as I can |

Hi!
I realise I may be a little late in this reply... have you decided to come to Geochang?
I'm there teaching in a Hogwan - it's an OK place. It's easy to get to big cities from there but it's quite hard to get back, at least, at reasonable times. People are generally friendly but this is a very small town indeed!
There are more and more foreigners coming all of the time. Let me know if you have decided please
Thanks! |

I almost took a job in Chuncheon, but went to Geochang instead. I hope it works as well for you as it did for me. |

I hope anyone searching for Geochang looks this far down into the conversation.
If you're male - yippee! Move here in a heart beat - if you want full on ermersion and are toward the 'traditional' view of a female's place in society.
If you're living and breathing the 21st Century you should definitely look into another, bigger, place.
To cut it short - three words - limited gene pool. |
