I see that Yonsei ELP in Suwon is advertising again. They are getting ready for another mass exitious of teachers. Be warned, this is a terrible place to work. I spent a year there and was glad to escape. First of all, even tho the teaching hours are 3:30-8:45, you have to be there 2 hours early to do all the make work they give you. There is a lot of pressure on teachers and the atmosphere is usually pretty tense. There is a lot of "clique-ism" this group hates that group, etc... Lots of backstabbing, petty crap and infighting.
The school loads you up with a huge amount of work, it never seems to get all done. Mid-term reports, final reports, paperwork out the wazoo.......like I said, the atmosphere is tense and this place has a huge turnover. When I left last year, 7 out of 11 teachers left at the same time! If you like personality clashes, overwork, meetings that are a waste of time, lots of backstabbing and a tense atmosphere--this is the place for you. If not, there are much better jobs to be had! Avoid this place! |

Usually there are other reasons teachers leave as well. In my opinion, your reasons were justified.
How many paid vacation days were the employees really entitled to?
How many paid sick days were the employees really entitled to?
Did the employer deduct the correct (%) from the employee's monthly salary for income taxes?
Did the employer "pocket deductions" from the employee's monthly salary for income taxes?
Did the employer deduct (2..24%) from the employee's monthly salary for medical insurance and pay the contribution to the National Healthcare Insurance Corporation?
Did the employer "pocket deductions" from the employee's salary for medical insurance?
Did the employer pay (4.5%) of the Korean Pension Plan?
Did the employer deduct (4.5%) from employee's monthly salary and pay the deduction to the pension office or pocket them?
Were the employee satisfied with their living conditions upon arrival in Korea? Were the furnishings provided to them as stated in their labor contracts?
Were employees paid on time?
Were employees paid overtime wages for hours worked?
Did this employer have a history of withholding severance pay?
Did this employer have a history of dismissing employees for the sole purpose of not providing employees their severance pay, last working months salary, and plane ticket home? |

Didn't anybody teach you, "Don't believe everything you hear (or read)?
6 years of EFL teaching, this is one of the more straight-up, dependable schools. OP didn't enjoy it because he was one of the main causes an "uncomfortable atmosphere" and complaining about paper work from a person who did absolutely NO PREP before classes. To do any work outside the 40-50 minutes of actual teaching apparently has the OP up in arms.
This is giving away more info about myself than I care to let on, but I'm not gonna let anyone slam a school, even if it is a hagwon, that has done right by me, it's students and teachers.
Move on OP, move on....better luck next time. PM me if this is a serious concern for anyone (and it really shouldn't be) and want more details. |

What a load of crap! The huge turnover rate in itself is a big tipoff! The prep work was a good 15-20 hours minimum on top of teaching! I guess that's why everyone was always stressed out, arguing and generally a fun bunch to be with! The truth is, the place is a soap opera and if you're looking for a good job, this ain't it! |

You didn't provide any information to prove the OP otherwise which would be easy for you to provide if you work at the school. If seven out of eleven employees resign at once, that's indicative of serious workplace issues. |

Not so defensive and there is no hurry. Look, I tell ya the way it is. Believe it or not, it's up to you. Are you look'n to work there? If not, then what's it to ya? It's a good school. OP, calls it a "soap opera" then go back and read his emotionally charged threads and then think it over.

Just a comment. If it's as great as you say, how many contracts are up for renewal soon, and of these how many are staying? Not too damn many! |
