hmmm,.,.,.., clean - NO, legit - no and especially NO re: artists and now you have been told/forwarned.
Go to Tokyo or HongKong for artwork. |

I beg to differ. How many tattoos have you gotten here? I got a nice one for 100 000 won, and I have 3 tattoos from when I was in Thailand, one from Hong Kong, and one from Taiwan.
Check out this guy's site, I used to work with his brother, but unless you have first-hand experience in getting some ink done here then shut your poo-poo hole...

I probably have more ink than most who are here.... and
Having checked out what little there is here for tattoo shops.... and been thoroughly disgusted ...
If you only managed to find 1 good tat shop or at least artist in a city of 10 million... I don't feel bad telling people to look in other places.

| Tattoos are technically illegal in Korea so you'll probably end up getting it done at some dude's home. Hope that's what you meant by legit. |

| In Hongdae near the park, there's a place (but I can't remember the name). I had no ink done there, however I bought some rings, etc... and browsed through their tats. Decent selection, staff helpful, seemed sterile enough. |

| How are Koreans dealing with tattoos these days? I think the society is relaxing a bit regarding them. A few years ago only gangsters sported tattoos and teachers with tats would find themselves occasionally being kicked out of gyms and saunas for having visible tattoos. |

| your best bet, in my opinion, is to roll over to Skunk hell (hongdae) on a friday or saturday night. These guys have tatoos and piercings and most were done in Korea. Furthermore, if you're nice and respectful, you may make a friend who will introduce you to an artist. Which may be required, as again, it is illegal. |

Furthermore, very few medical doctors have the abillity or desire to do non-cosmetic tatooing- hence, it is done underground by non-qualified "street doctors". |

I wrote it, so I can link it. They also decided recently to include this rule to ban piercing as well. And I'm informed that a similar law exists in Japan, although tattooing seems a lot more mainstream there.

Actually, one friend of mine went to a cosmetic surgeon in Itaewon and managed to get 군인 tattooed on his shoulder. |

Anyone know how much this Yushi guy charges? He's done a few Korean celebs by the looks of things, so I doubt he comes cheap. Does he speak any English?
I had a couple of tattoos done in Japan, and while they were expensive, the quality was good and highly reccommended. I'd avoid Thailand though, I've seen far too many shabby tattoos from Thailand. |
