| You are not crazy. The lack of free expression on this website is hypocritical to the very notion of a discussion forum in the English language. While some people don't want to be offended by language, the best way to truth is through open discussion. I can agree with mods stopping personal attacks against other's personality, but not against their opinions. To edit what topics can be discussed is slap in the face to everyone on this board. |

This is Dave Sperling's livelihood - well not so much this particular forum, but the whole thing, the whole Dave's ESL Cafe, is how he supports his wife and family.
I can understand why he has strict guidelines as to what should we see posted here and what shouldn't be.
Although I do share the sentiments of the general posters and feel that they should cut us some slacks at times.
And no, I am not a MOD and I don't ever want to be one, either. |

Hey Mods, what's up? Please explain what was offensive about the thread? |

Yours was the "Why Women Should Never Marry" thread?

Guy needs to stop prancing around with this silly "I run a website" charade and put in an honest day's work doing something manly and mindless and backbreaking. Just like Korean laws regarding blind masseuses, running websites should be made the exclusive right of women & cripples.

See, I don't really mind seeing threads taken out back and shot in the head. God knows I'd run this place like a gulag if given half a chance. |

My thread WAS, "I'll see you on Monday."
I did not post, "Why women should never marry."
Not my style. |

I'll see you on Monday is gone? Why? I thought it belonged in Job-related. Might it have been moved there? |

Nope. Not there. Checked the first three pages.
Why is it gone? That was my question. |

True, it might be HIS livelihood, but it is the only chance for some people to truly vent out their frustrations at what they see and experience in Korea on a daily basis....
I keep on saying this as if it would be good advice; he should do to ALL the Korean forums as he does to the China Off-Topic forums- make them member-only forums where people who have passwords and screennames are the only ones who can login to this section. It would eliminate the fear of expression Dave might feel every time someone posts something that the general Korean public doesn't like.
I know for a fact that Dave's was mentioned negatively on CCTV in China for some of the same things that were mentioned on the Korean forums, but the moderators are not as strict with them as they are in the Korean forums- which is no fair if you really think about it. |

There are other message boards besides this one.

You're recommending that, while ONLY the Off-Topic forum on the China board requires a password to read, EVERY forum on the Korea board should require a password? Why?
On a somewhat related topic, there was a thread recently about the eslcafe board. It may have been down temporarily, I can't remember the point of the OP. But I asked there why it was that the "General" forum on that board is now closed to the public. "General" sounds fairly tame. And that board isn't beholden to advertisers, so what's the big worry? There was one response, but the poster seemed merely to restate the fact that it's locked to non-members. Not exactly an answer to the question. So, what's the goddamn deal over there, anybody?

I quite agree. But Dave IS a crippled blind masseuse woman. And a damn good one, too! Don't let the beard put you off. |

I think I would be pretty muchfine with any set of rules, as long as they were clearly defined...
Daves ESL Cafe may be Mr Sperlings life-blood, but WE are the life-blood of the forums here; intellectuals, newbies, and asshats alike. |
