I am a big fan of live gigs. One of my favs is this small bar in Ottawa, Canada caled Barrymores. It holds about 500 folks top and it is set in an ampitheater kind of setting. You walk up into it and when you enter you can either go up or down.
The stage is located at the bottom, with a dance floor in front. After that it just goes up, so every seat in the house is a great view. They have 3 bars there so it is never a problem getting a drink. The place is covered in brass and mirrors on the side.
It is also one of those venues that hosts bands that are on the verge of breaking through. I have seen Dave Matthews Band, Matthew Good Band, Big Sugar, and many more. RaidoHead and Oasis have played there as well as U2 back in '82 before they hit the big time.
So, where do you like to rock it down?

barrymores is a fantastic venue. one of my favourite bands to watch there is big jeezus truck, a band that will never make it big but they sure know how to wow the hometown crowd.
i quite like the commodore ballroom in vancouver, they have a bouncing floor to enhance the whole dancing experience, and the ambiance is wonderful.
i also like the gorge ampitheatre in george, washington. it's a massive natural ampitheatre that can comfortably seat 20,000 people. there are no bad seats, it's all grass, and it looks down on a beautiful river and cliffs. great for festivals.

right now i'm listening to: horrorpops - julia

now it's a wackass techno/DJ bar where dudes spin records and douchebags from maple ridge drive in to act like they're gang members or styler porno magnates with frosted tips.
shows i saw there:
helmet
seaweed
meat puppets
die kreuzen
nirvana
jawbreaker
steelpole bathtub
COC
SNFU
and many more that i don't remember. such a nice, homey little venue. |

Brixton Academy has to be my favourite place to see a show. Its dark, dirty and full of unsavoury types. Hence, I love it. The slanted dancefloor is kind of strange when you're knocking back the booze and whatever else, but this is just another reason to leave the place with good memories. Ah, the times I've had in there.... |

Legendary venue...One of the Dead's favorites until some dude whacked out on LSD decided to climb the rocks and have a climb/fall.
Tiger Fancici, heard of Brixton Academy. One of my favorite bands, the Super Furry Animals, say they love playing there.
RSS, Commodore is awesome! I caught Jazzberry Ram there in '95. Great gig and a great place to see a show. The old red velvet curtains made that place for sure!
UberCheeise, Town Pump was damn cool. I caught People Playing Music there in the summer of '95. Its too bad its a techno bar now. Some music halls deserved to be protected like a heritage site if you ask me! And the ones mentioned above would be included on my list...

No worries! No reason to rag on someone over here...It is chilling in the off-topic room. It is in the General Discussion where you got to keep your head up! |

I have always enjoyed the Gorge at George (Washington State).
From Wikipedia:
The Gorge Amphitheatre is a 20,000 seat concert venue located above the Columbia River gorge in George, Washington. Administered by the House of Blues, it is considered one of the premier and most scenic concert locations in North America and the world.
The Gorge is known for its spectacular views, lawn-terrace seating, and nearly year-round clear weather.
#2 has got to be the Palace Hotel Ballroom. Nice place up north. Built in the 40's on Lake Wazzapamani. |
